Manga Can someone help me find the name of this (likely) obscure manga?

I am completely stumped here. I will try to be as concise as possible. But it's been 20+ years and I only remember a small portion of it. I'm almost positive it's Japanese in origin and not a western manga-like. But I could be wrong. Just take every possibility into consideration.

I think it may have been a one shot and not related to any pre-existing series. There's a guy and a girl. I'm pretty sure they are a couple. They also appear to be homeless and living in an old building with a bunch of stray cats. One of the couple goes out to buy cat food and is killed. It ends with that character laying there dead and I think the other character waiting for them not knowing they are never coming back.

I know this is a terrible description. But that's what I remember and it's probably close enough to the actual story. It's haunted me for two decades now.

Doesn't ring a bell, and if it was a one-shot, it could've been in a collection, too. Was it a horror story? Sounds like a somber story but maybe not intended to be scary.

I can't remember if I got it off 4chan or a manga site. It was likely one of the very many one shots that was floating around at the time when people were really gaga for fresh translations and you ended up seeing a lot of strange things. All I'm sure of other than the cats and one character being murdered is that it is probably from the early 2000s.

I think it was more of a tragic slice of life. I can't remember how the manga itself was posted. But it could be in a collection somewhere. I likely just clicked a link directly to that part or read it through 4chan posts. I read so much manga in the early 2000s that I admit it's a blur at times.

That’s ok. No need to apologize. One shots are a giant ocean. Hopefully one here can find it. Follow bjork’s advice and look for it in a collection maybe. Try to think of a way you could google it.

I'm always on scanlation sites, so I'll try and keep my eye peeled, but it's hard without a title. Something older is going to get overlooked by the sea of newer titles.

Took peek into this and my best guess is perhaps one of these vocaloid songs, I know you said manga, but these feel similar to what you’re talking about so maybe give them a look, their my best guess

Kagerou Daze also has a manga, don’t know much about it though
