So this came out a few days ago. https://www.romhacking.net/hacks/9157/

This looks like the optimal way to play Breath of Fire II. A whole bunch of new features make this truly definitive that it would seem it will live up to its lofty name.

Problem is, I am having issues making the hack work. Not just me, it seems a WHOLE bunch of people are complaining about it on reddit in the official release thread.

To bypass the checksum of the hack, which is in place for god knows what arcane reason, the file text/disclaimer states you must have a save file established first in bof2 before applying the hack, it must be the US release of BOF2, which I have and I followed all the instructions and it's still not working for me. Would really love to hear if anyone has any ideas for making this SOB work.

thanks!

I just tried it and it works fine? I mean I did start the game and even past the intro so what is the exact problem?

What I did:

- I downloaded the game from here:

- Created the save file -> entered the game -> at the initial cutscene I closed my emulator Snes9x v1.62.3 for Windows.

- Applied the patch via https://www.romhacking.net/utilities/240/

- I noticed the patch came with SRM file and its name is "Breath of Fire II (U) [!]", to be safe I put the rom and this SRM file where SNEX9X's EXE is and then renamed the rom same as SRM file's name "Breath of Fire II (U) [!]"

- Ran the game -> now game has 3 saves that wasn't mine, I deleted one of them and recreated another save to slot 1 -> game honestly works fine and I'm pass the initial start of the game. Is problem happens after that?

Well it's in the repo and includes a save fix....

i play some other version of this on Retro Cheevo's and badaged the game. i forget what it was i wonder if i should replay this...

I honestly like the gba version new CGs do I rather stick with the bad translation for the new stuff. Wonder why no one has ported a new TL to it.
