Bit of a thought experiment...

That's (nearly) the exact phrase I had in mind when I posted that, I was having a bit of difficulty wording it. I just feel someone *really* wanting to be made mod is a bit of a red flag, and in my past experience tend to be the one's who're overeager to flex their authority once given it.
Yeah, I don't have a perfect track record appointing people because a few of them just... Really embodied that feeling.

However, there was also a certain 13-year-old who volunteered twice, was rejected, then became such a good contributor that we kind of gave up and gave her a chance. She's on that forum's Hall Of Fame due to how much better the place was during her tenure.

She’s probably one kickass kid to achieve that! We all know being a Mod isn’t a bed of roses.

She was incredible.

It's almost a shame that high school swallowed her whole, really.
Hopefully she was able to get to a better place after highschool. Someone who can mediate that well at such a young age is surely capable of great things.

Yeah. She's in college now, studying what she likes.

We don't really talk regularly anymore, but we sometimes drop offline messages for the other to see.

Busy Bee, that one.

And to think that she’ll be somebody’s boss someday.

I have always discouraged volunteers on my boards... There's an old internet saying that goes like "generally, those who want it the most deserve it the least".

It's been proven true over and over.
Ya, that's not to say we outright rejected volunteers tho, we even had form for users who wanted to give it a shot, they would still be monitored by the mod team just like the other candidates although there were some bias against them obviously.

I can't be a mod at anything. I only believe in righteousness and honour, and I would be painting everything pink, because I love pink. But specially, because I have my ups and downs and I can stay coming and posting to a site for a while, then disappear all of sudden because I am traveling around the world or I feel like it.

We are leaves pushed around by the wind, I don't want any attachments anymore, no marriage, no kids and no pets :D

That sounds very sensible.

I'd honestly give you a shot on my boards :P!
