Or, DO COMBO for lots of small numbers?

Big number is from one hit is great and can be helpful, I kinda like combo stuff more though. Especially if it's like Akuma's special move, Shun Goku Satsu

Depends on the game. With games where paying attention to the numbers matter, big single hit attacks are easier to keep track of. Combos look and feel cooler though.

Ah yes, hammer sharpening, a secret art. I always thought sharpness should have been named conditions instead. And maybe whetstone should have been a collective item called repair kit that would imply whatever a weapon needs to be repaired.

Why not both? Rapid combo - quick pause for effect - big finisher!

But yeah, I'm a sucker for combo heavy movesets. Gimme a fast, dodgy boxer character over some slow heavy hitter any day.
(Except for Monster Hunter - I love me a Greatsword just as much as a Longsword)

Both require implement of reading the opposition and practiced behavior for your weapon. Out of the two, though: reading an opponent to just wham the living daylights out of them feels more suited to my preferences. Dialing down on the pressure and keeping steps ahead is plenty fine on its own, but retorts of emphasis need deserved impact...

ALSO I SEE THAT ARC OF OBLITERATION FROM DRAGON'S DOGMA. MASTERWORK; YOU CAN'T GO WRONG.
