Emulation is like the ultimate equalizer, isn't it?

For those of us who weren't born into insanely rich families, this is effectively what allows to explore and experience pretty much everything gaming has to offer without worrying about having the means or the (physical) space for it. Maybe that's why they are always trying to take it away from us...

Regardless! With so many awesome games to be found, we are almost bound to come across one that just seems to come out of nowhere and blow our minds to pieces.

What are the games that did that for you? Mine was Emerald Dragon on SNES:

I don't even know what it does different from literally every other JRPG out there, but it just speaks to me.

What about you? What are your cool finds through emulation?

The two earliest games I can remember playing on emulator:

Must be nearly 20 years ago by now, but friends of my mothers had an SNES emulator on their computer that I would play. I wouldn't have known what emulation was back then, just that they had awesome games on their computer that I would play when we visited.

I still remember the first time my friend showed me a Gameboy emulator... It was like stepping into another world.

A friend in high school gave me a GBA emulator. Still probably the emulator I've played most over the years!

Oh, WAY too many to count!
• Lunar: The Silver Star (Sega CD)
• Keio Flying Squadron (Sega CD)
• the Sailor Moon beat 'em ups on SNES & Genesis
• Wild Guns (SNES)
• Shatterhand (NES)

Just to name few.
Oh, nice picks! I have played --and loved-- all of those.

The emulators even made me buy the console. For example playing Freedom Wars, Ni no Kuni, Radiant Historia, Mad Max 3...
That's the best feeling, when you find something SO GOOD that you just have to own it for reals afterwards. That's basically my entire GOG library.

-Super Robot Wars in general.
-Phantasy Star.
-Fire Emblem.
-Kirby games.
-Valkyrie Profile.
-ActRaiser.
-Armored Core.
-Sakura Taisen.
A lot of games to say the least but emulation in general is real for showing off the kinds of games I've missed and never got to play or never known they've existed till I discovered it out of nowhere from the usual sites.

Fan-translated games that I discovered and played due to emu:

SRW J, W, 3, EX, Alpha Gaiden, A Portable
Ace Attorney: Miles Edgeworth 2
Metal Max 3, 2 RELOADED
Seiken Densetsu 3 (now known as Trials of Mana)
Tales of Phantasia (SNES)
Front Mission Gun Hazard
Bahamut Lagoon
Famicom Tantei Club 2

Releases that I missed the first time around:

SD Gundam G-Generation ADVANCE, SPIRITS
Panzer Front, Ausf.B
Seek and Destroy/Shin Combat Choro Q
SDF Macross (PS2)
Sniper Elite
Warship Gunner, 2
Infinite Space/Mugen Kouro
Tactics Ogre: Let Us Cling Together (SNES/PSX), Knight of Lodis
Romance of the Three Kingdoms X (PS2)
Ring of Red
Shining Soul II
Sword of Mana
999
Clock Tower
Lufia - the Legend Returns
ININDO
Uncharted Waters, 2
Monster Hunter 2

Basically all non mobile games i play.... because games here is really really really expensives
Yeah, it's almost impossible to buy anything where I live due to storefronts operating on foreign currency and eBay resellers being jackals when it comes to dealing with their 8 and 16-bit stuff (and it's usually in pretty bad shape, too).

There are a number of games where I've accepted I'll likely never afford a physical copy. And yeah, I am not paying what people will ask for just a disc these days! ::cirnoshrug

A lot of games

Clock Tower the First Fear
Radiant Historia
Mother 1
Azure Dreams
The World Ends with You
Skies of Arcadia
Fire Emblem Awakening
PopoloCrois 1 (I haven't play 2 because I am waiting a good translation)

And many more I using Emulator for more than 10 years now

Thanks to Retroachievements and emulation I very rarely play modern games lol. The biggest gems seem to come from fan translations of games we never got. Here are some of the translated RPGs that I have completed that I thought were rather fun.

NES - Radia Senki: Reimei Hen (Zelda like RPG)
GameGear - Moldorian: Hikari to Yami no Sister (turn based RPG)
SNES - Bishoujo Senshi Sailor Moon: Another Story (turn based RPG)
SNES - Emerald Dragon - (turn based RPG)
SNES - Magic Knight Rayearth (Short turn based RPG)
SNES - Eien no Filena (turn based RPG based on an anime...battle system is different)
Genesis - Tougiou King Colossus (Zelda like RPG)
