Half the time I try to attach an image, it turns black and I can't insert it into the post.

Is your image larger than 2MBs or in a format such as .WEBP? The site has trouble with both.
No, I’ve had this issue too. And the cause is neither of those. It shows up as JPEG and is the correct size. It’s usually solved by trying again, making the error hard to reproduce.

Ah, that explains it then. But usually, when the image is too big, the text saying so appears.

Edit: Wait, nevermind. It happens even with smaller images.

looks like a webp slipped through.

I think it's not working properly now, might need to retry or use a lower res image.

Not to state the obvious, but filename having .jpg doesn't necessarily mean the actual contents of the file are a JPEG format ::cirnoshrug

I've seen this happen quite a bit on another forum i use, which uses a similar template and setup to this one. I'm not sure what happens, but something timed out or didn't work right. Unless you see an image (or icon in the upload file) the file failed, and just delete it and re-upload it. I hope the order of the uploads doesn't matter.

At least for now, Retry is the way... size of image doesn't matter. (my own personal tests shows this)
Just keep trying until it finally gets accepted.

Spike is working on the issue, hopefully will be resolved soon.

Working on a server upgrade to see if it makes a difference. But could be something else.

it's quite possible that some minor update to the site has been interfering. or there's a typo or something in the website's coding. that happened with aliens: colonial marines. one word was misspelled and half the game doesn't work.
most likely, there's probably more traffic to the site than was originally planned for and some signals or something is getting mixed up. hopefully it's just a minor bug or something small.

Maybe. Could also be other really stupid things.

Temporary directories that doesn't have the right accesses set up so it auto-fails because it times out or just errors.

It could be really slow/large tools.

It could be multiple servers are used and the time connecting back and forth between them is just taking too long. (Think Amazon, and then Amazon images, one handles inventory and cart and payment and the brain, and the other could be several servers providing images and other resources that don't need privileges). Course if you're using your own hardware this is far less likely.

It could be really weak modules to the framework that's interpreted and with thousands of people at the same time just eats away at the CPU.

It could be memory limitations (Though with up to 2Mb files i don't see that as much a problem) even if you extracted and uncompressed it. But if you add ZSwap or heavy Swap usage then that could slow it down.

And maybe it's totally unrelated and the timing is a problem in a gateway somewhere between our computer and RTG.
