Are Sonic characters squishmallows really worth over $40 or those prices are just scalpers?
I found the average price range around 40 to 50 on ebay, and someone just bought Big the Cat for 49,99. No way the most recent ones aren't avaible anymore on retailer stores.
I'm not from US so I got annoyed when the only store I found the said squishmallow selling for $43,63 so I did a quick search and it seems those are the prices. For a stuffed fictional animal. Released not over a year ago.

No unless you really, really want it.
I'm comparing these to similarly sized plush, like Big Nesoberi, $40 is fine, $50 is just pushing it.

There are many sizes for squishmallows, though the only Big avaible where I am from is 8" and a half. I already own a squishmallow and it's nice and all but back then I paid around $17 and the average price range for an 8" is $20.

Something is only worth what you're willing to pay for it. Would I? No.
I would be willing to pay if I wasn't unemployed. I can't really spend much on hobbies anymore, but I really want this Big plush because it's the only official one.

Ahh 8" for $20 is okay, was the largest size 14"?

NO, I’d suggest waiting until your financially viable to splurge on hobbies, I made the mistake of buying shit like that when I was unemployed, and I ran through my wallet like a pornstar.

I’d suggest saving up for it and remembering the 50/30/20 rule.

Is paying more than 2 dollars for these things normal? Those squishmellows cost like 50 cents to make in some Factory in Taiwan, they shouldn't cost more than 5 bucks.

I got one in a claw machine and local stores sell it for like 20-30$, It might be a regional thing.

Geez why are those things so expensive? I remeber when i could get a fully articulated action figure as a kid for 20$.
Because corporations know weebs are the best target of consumerism, I could be a billionaire but no way and I spending 80$ on a figurine lol.

*looks at my $350 figure*
True that, what a waste of money, be a smart consumer.

Probably the gimmick. They are super soft ("mochi") plushies with a lot of original characters that works as zodiac and people started hunting for those they indentify as, another thing is how many brands they are partner of to make plushies of both popular and underrated characters. I always thought $20 is unfair for a stand price but was with that price the company got billionaries.

People scalp these things? I can go to the local kmart and find them for $15 Australian and they always have a few of each character. Definitely would not pay $40 US for one.

If you have the money to splurge 350$ then go for it, I’d personally go on Aliexpress and get it cheap. ?
Aliexpress is 50/50, you either get the actual thing or either you get a wonky bootleg one nothing like the ad.

Since they became popular, they do. But that's also the company's fault. They release so many in so short time that many characters just vanish and don't come back because there are new ones around, so "collectors" get the opportunity to scalp almost every single one that haven't get a rerelease.
Something that happened few years ago were employees of retailers literally hiding and keeping new waves of squishmallow releases until the store closes so they either keep or sell it as "exclusive brand new item".

Fair, HobbyLink has pretty good shipping and AmiAmii is decent from what I remember but Ali is the cheapest I can think of.

Mandarake is pretty cheap.

Some retailer tries to prevent this by limiting individual purchase to 1 or 3 maximum, while it works to some extent, scalpers do still find a workaround.

At that price? No. Sonic has plenty of plushies at better prices.

I don't know about Sonic, but I get Miku plushies cheaper than that. The REALLY collectible Fuwa's can go for $40, but that's the rare stuff, not a normal collectible.

Though the only Big the Cat plush is that squishmallow for that price. There's no doubt Sonic himself has plenty of plushies, but I want specifically a Big one.

That's far and how large is the plush because that could affect how much it's worth it. If you can't easily afford it though it might be best to wait to save up more.

I really don't like squishmallows in general, especially for their ridiculous prices.
