Help Are all the roms on this site safe?

Serious question, I wonder if I should take precautions with every game I download here or not. Sorry if I sound like a noob but guys I'm just afraid of catching something.

for what i know, roms is not like an executable program that can write or modify something in your system. the only thing they do is being read by the emulator.

what you can be afraid is with the emulators. only take them at the developer website. taking it in the first site google shows as result is something i won't do.

I understand what you mean, but I'm thinking that hypothetically the malicious rom could corrupt the emulator and run background tasks to infect the system.

I've been here quite awhile now, and all roms have been safe, for me. No odd exe files or anything. Just the rom.

sincerely, i have never seem something like that.
And i don't believe one hacker would have this much trouble to make something so complicated if he can simply put a "gta 6 pre-release.exe", "fifa 2027.exe" on some open torrent site and have a lot of idiots installing that.

the simply fact that the links here don't take us to a lot of suspicious ads before we can get the game is enough for me to believe in the site.

Well I'm not saying only exe files can be harmful, I'm just saying those are the ones to look out for the most. So far though like I said roms here are fine. No issues here.

Same with me, everything ive downloaded from here and from cdromance were always right. Also, I mostly play games on the original hardware and they always worked perfectly. I find pretty hard to an nds rom, for example, to work flawlessly on a r4 and to be a windows virus at the same time, same with ps1, ps2, saturn and much more isos ive burned and worked just fine.

Don't worry about it OP.

ROMs themselves cannot run arbitrary code, and the viruses people catch on the internet are almost always drive by downloads (that is, something is downloaded along the file and they don't notice) or the person mistakenly downloads something like an executable and thinks they should run that.

Well I've been getting roms from here for many many years and never had an issue, so I can vouch that there's nothing suspicous about the roms on this site.

You only need to watch out for other sites that take you to an ad pretending to be the download first, and .exe files (which yeah I've never gotten a .exe from here, but it's a quick way to tell you got a fake download from another site)

The only way this would be possible is if the emulator had some kind of memory leak and a hacker somehow figured out how to overflow rom code into the emulator code and then that emulator memory leak has to be bad enough that it overflows the stack into the main os memory. The chances of this happening are so ridiculously small they might as well be nonexistent.

I've been doing emulation since 1997, and even then it was totally safe. If you really want to get a virus on your computer, one of the best ways is to download pirated antivirus software. Yeah, hacker trolls have a dark sense of humor. And if you ever come across a password protected exe file with an attached text file thanking you for running the exe you know you're about to have a good time.

I downloaded a .wav once that dragged file explorer to the recycle bin n then meh 2 laptops blew up n smashed all my belongings out the window - n singed my eyebrows off.

Never trust anything. some mallcore malware told me to fuck off n I cried. now I download safeLy from Nintendo's Legal Department FTP xD

sorry I kids, I kids obviously but if you can note trends n patterns a bit n have even a marginal modicum of aptitude with tickin off the checkmark boxes of what seems safe n wut doesn't you probably wiLL come through with a vast collection unscathed. even on slsk other gamers n I share to each other directly even the notorious fitgirl repax on occasion if I want to preview a possibly-sketchy game release

- it's been a big n stylish sack of no worries for me n I started grabbin emus in '95 thanks to a savvy friend who got me into shit when DOS BBS' n IRC were most of what represented the intaRRwebz n have rarely ever encountered anything malicious in emu-circ;les from then to naoW. stiLL, if somethin raises a red-flagg-ed eyebrow or 2 - proceed with caution n perhaps even acquiesce/extricate yourself from a shady-seeming transaction offer or try to get pertinent info surrounding it or ask for 2nd opinions

feels too good to be true huh? I have been using roms and emulators off and on for 27 years and have never had anything bad happen due to the literal rom files (.iso, md, .sfc etc).. congrats on finding the repo- this place is heaven compared to emuparadise, coolrooms, and other sites from the past. this is the best and safest place to find these games and files

We take extremely good care of the stuff uploaded to the site... And I have been downloading from here for years, long before I was even involved.
