Arc the lad worth playing?

I haven't watched the anime, but as games, definitely, if you like tactical RPGs.
Just be aware that Arc 1 is short and much, much rougher than Arc 2 and 3. They are meant to be played sequentially.

I couldn't tell you about the PS2 ones, though, don't care for those.

I wasn't able to get into Arc 1 but as RageBurner said they get better each entry

Its the same song as the anime. I'm in.
Inspect Jim Carrey GIF

The anime covers the first two games. Arc 1 can be rough but it's also very short, especially for an RPG. It's nothing more than a prologue for the second game really. Arc 2 is where it's at, best game in the series hands down. Arc 3 and onwards are pretty meh.

I like Arc 2 and 3 equally, to be honest. What I don't like are the PS2 ones.

Arc 1 is rough, I can't blame you. I feel you can reasonably skip and just watch a playthrough. It's short anyway.
I appreciated its super-early 32bit JRPG vibe (wasn't it the first JRPG to come out for the PS1?) but yeah, a game can't survive on vibes alone.

Yeah one of the earliest, along with Beyond the Beyond and Wild Arms 1, if memory serves. At least PS1 wise.

Yes they absolutely are. I've only played the ps1 trilogy so I can't say anything about the ps2 games. It's recommended to play them in release order because they all follow one coherent story

I think they're worth playing...it's true Arc 1 is a little rough but it's also really short(10-15, 20 hours tops if you do the bonus dungeon) so I think it's worth starting with that and playing the trilogy in order.

I also have to disagree on the PS2 games being all bad, Twilight of the Spirits is quite good.....I like it more than Arc 1 and 3 myself, and in some ways more than 2(the game drags a little, and has annoying difficulty spikes). 2 is still overall my favorite though. Edge of Darkness for PS2 on the other hand, is terrible.

ATL1 is too short.
ATL2 is the best, but has limited inventory.

I can vouch for 2 being great. I remember it having good music and some really nice sprite art in places. I also recall some kind of extensive bounty hunt side quests and I always love that shit lol
