Over the years there have been a fair few MMOs that I've played which ran entirely from the browser.

I think the first one I remember getting into was Adventure Quest. It was kind of shitty but I remember everyone in my highschool playing this shit for a year or so.

The graphics were crappy but it could run on a school computer with a semi-working blocklist.

Of course, as soon as I wasn't in highschool and limited to a shitty computer/ had my own internet connection, it stopped being all that interesting.

I eventually moved onto some text/still image-based Pokémon MMO that I can't remember the name of, before stumbling across Kingdom of Loathing which is also largely animation-less and playable on anything.

These days I mostly enjoy Fallen London (a.k.a - Echo Bazaar) and have stopped playing the others.

So you guys still playing any browser based MMOs? There's the obvious huge one that is still seeing updates to this damn day, but you can even launch that shit through steam now so I'm.not sure if it counts anymore? ::thinking

I recall trying a couple browser MMOs (whose names I forgot but both were 2d and I think pixelated) back in 2022 but then I lost interest

oh man, huge nostalgia surge!
back in like 2012 or so, there was a show on cartoon network called level up. it was basically about three dudes hunting mobs from a mmo they played with their weapons from that game.

you had geek wyatt, whose character was a machine "gun" wielding skeleton-human hybrid.
typical highschool jock lyle (who'd end up playing atrain in the boys for some reason) whose character was a multi caster wizard (appropriately named wizzah)
and of course, impulsive daredevil dante whose character was sir bickle, a bat wielding maniac, replicating much of dante's character irl.

i used to watch that show SO MUCH and to this day thank it for getting me into games like diablo and fate

and one day i found out the game they hunted mobs from (and also played) was a real thing! or so i thought....

may i introduce to you, maldark: conqueror of all worlds! of course, it was not a one to one recreation, but a very dumbed down flash port.
choosing sir bickle (my fav from the show) i played it for a bit and i really enjoyed it as a kid, but after compiling the demo version (since this game was long long gone) and playing it again, i realised that the game is nothing more than a shitty dungeon crawler, like fate but worse.

however, it did spark my love for dungeon crawlers and mmos, so i'll give it credit for at least doing that.
