Sometimes, when I play a game for too long in one session, there comes a point when I feel like I’m not enjoying it anymore and feel worse afterwards. I’m not sure if this is guilt that I’m “wasting my time” or the feeling I should be doing something else. Can anyone else relate?

Maybe the answer is less time and doing something else after all. Or I could switch up games or take a break. I’m trying to show myself grace either way, but it’s not a pleasant feeling to have after playing.

I can sorta relate... there are games I absolutely love that just feel tiresome and repetitive after a while, kinda like going through the motions at a very monotonous job. I mean, how many times can I kill random people on GTA before it gets boring? That must be why serial killers take breaks XD

But yeah, I get what you are saying.

yeah it happens all the time. I think it is a good thing, to be honest. It let's me take a break and if I get a hankering to come back to the game I can always continue it later. It only gets annoying with JRPGs if I forget most of the plot by the time I continue the game.

This is one of those things that makes me feel old but in the end there's a good reason why
Like the others saying, either it's because of the slow pacing or it's because of doing the same thing without any other solutions

Most of the games suffers from this because of the lack of creativity, freedom, replayability and other things that can make a game fun and still exciting

It is a feeling that I know very well and I also resent it as I get older. For example, I now prefer action or platformer games, whereas I used to really like jrpg... If I got into playing one of these nowadays I would feel like I was throwing my time away....

I used to be addicted to MMOs, specifically, Ragnarok Online. I would spend most of my free time playing it, but at the end of the day I would feel kinda guilty about wasting all that time. Nowadays I organize my days better, never again spending as much time as I used to do. Usually I need several months to finish stuff like JRPGs and will play several other games in between, but even then 100h+ games have a certain threshold in which I start to get tired of then, like the modern persona games.

That only happens to me when on vacation. Last time i played and played like crazy and by the end of it, i got really tired of playing and felt like i had to do something productive, then i went to work for 2 days and that feeling vanished and been wanting another vacation since then.

I think it's just the repetition of what you're doing setting in, combined with passing your peak 'retention' time with your brain. The best thing to do like others have said is to take a break and give your brain time to rest from it and process the information of whatever it was you were doing. It happens a lot to me when I'm writing and hit a wall so to speak, or trying to learn something new on guitar and also hitting a wall with it.

Yeah, I feel the same way now. I can't even binged TV shows anymore. I think it's just part of getting older and having kids.

The way that I've always fit video games – or any other entertainment media, for that matter – into my life is by only enjoying them after I've already finished everything I need to do. As long as I've completed all my work for the day, I really don't see any issue with playing video games or watching TV in the evening. Hey, what else are you supposed to do – eat dinner and then look at a wall until bedtime?

As long as you're being responsible (in all areas of your life), there's never any reason to feel guilty or depressed from spending extended periods of time on entertainment. No one can be utterly productive every second of every day – trust me, I've sure as F tried – and relaxing is how we "charge our batteries" for the times when we need to take action. Everything in moderation... ;)

I think is normal, not all games are made to be played in a ONE BIG SESSION.
Could be a slow pace in the game or just get bored of that game, is pretty common I would say, it happens to me a lot, and I just decide to take a break or switch to another game

every thing with moderation!
No! The factory must grow!!

Anyway, take breaks when playing like Factorio. It ain't called Cracktorio for no reason. 👀
And if that gives you the itch to try other more... productive activities, go for it.

Although each of us perceives the world from their personal point of view, the reality we live in is always just one.

What allows us to transform ink, graphic representations, and actor portrayals into other worlds in which to temporarily live, is solely and exclusively thanks to self-deception, however, this comes with a certain energy consumption for our brain, so when the batteries run out and we reach our daily limit, the plug is automatically pulled as a natural self-protection device.

If for example you don't play in the evening, but rather in the morning or afternoon and therefore still have energy to spend, there is also another reason related to dopaminergic saturation.

In practice, we continue doing what we enjoy because our body rewards us with dopamine, but when we reach saturation during the day, it simply no longer stimulates us and the experience becomes frigid.

This is why when this happens you should move on to something else.
