So, even being a game collector, I don’t usually go for crazy system variants. They’re typically more expensive and many aren’t worth it.

I have a couple colored systems. My GameBoy Color is yellow, and I got a matching Pichu charm for it. It looks gas. My PSP is this nice blue color, has a white strap, and I made sure the menu matches. It’s also gas. But there’s two systems I want to highlight.

The Pokéball 2DS XL. My old 3DS broke in 2017 and I finally asked my parents about it that year. I got this for Christmas that year. It’s a super sick variant that I’ve tried to keep in good shape while also using it as a daily driver. The button on the top is actually functional, you can push it. It does nothing, no secret function, but it just makes the system extra cool. The system also kinda looks like a Pokédex now, so that’s pretty rad. On the inside it’s just a red and black 2DS XL, which is the biggest problem: the 2DS XL design is kinda buns. I mean, it’s still a luxury to have, and I’m happy to have it, but it does feel flimsy on the hinge and the C-stick is absolutely depressing. I had the misfortune of finding out when I hacked mine that the C-stick is also broken on mine, making it hard to use, so that sucks. But it’s also still the 3DS, so it’s got a great library and vibe while having a sick exterior design.

The Mario Switch OLED, now, I specifically asked for this when getting my Switch. And I’m super happy I was able to work out a deal with my family on this one because this thing is pretty cool. It’s mostly just a red Switch OLED, which is fine, but the real magic is this subtle decal on the side and place with the plugs. Worthless? Possibly, but I can’t hear you over the sound of being mildly entertained. This came out in 2023.

I got a Red/white N64 i imported wit the box from Japan, & I got my Smash Bros 3DS XL, other than that tho. They're all pretty much the normal version of said system. I don't have too many *Special* consoles (aside from what they just are, lmao)

I have the Pokemon themed GBC. The speaker is borked though. Headphones still work. Maybe the speaker can be fixed? I'm wondering if it was a battery leak. It originally belonged to my cousins and one of them didn't take care of anything.

Stolen from your home or stolen when you took it somewhere?

On a side note: my partner owns this absolute beauty.

The coolest part is that the system plays an R2-D2 sound effect upon startup. That’s actually so brilliant that it’s beyond words. It’s sadly cursed by the awful Kinect (using that, even in 2025, is not fun), but it’s still an XBox 360 S, one of the best systems ever made, so I think the trade off is valid.

A mighty fleet of nuggets, this is.

Love the (what I assume is) DankPods reference, but also I am EYEING UP THAT HALO XBOX!

It’s a variant I’ve been fiending about for years, and it’s one I would actually like to own someday! Nice to know it’s in a good home, next to the sleeper of that set: the CDX.

I'm glad to see someone get the reference (it's actually closer to his Garbage Time channel), because that dood is a treasure.

Getting that Halo Xbox was sheer coincidence; got a standard black one in one place, expecting it to be the only one I get, only to go to another hours later to find it for sale. Immediately traded the black one I just bought. It never even made it home.
The CDX, however, was pretty much divine intervention; I wanted one because screw using multiple AC adapters just to play the Sega CD. Dood I knew had one, and sold it off on eBay...only for the buyer to cancel when it couldn't happen. Once again, quickly snagged up.

Not rare or special but I like my silver PS2 when black PS2 is so common. I can kill vampires with it lol:

I have the silver one too! I got it for my 7th birthday in 2006. It no longer reads disc, so I'm going to try out the SD Card Memory card thing at some point. The PS2 I actually play is a black "fat" system with a SDD. My dream PS2 is that Japanese one that's clear blue.

Sorry for an info dump.

(P.S. I love that tiny CRT you have.)

When you mentioned it I recommend USB and SMB methods due to compatibility issues of games and the virtual memory card (VMC) save feature. To make memory cards live longer VMC feature is really cool but it doesn't necessarily work in every method depending on the game.

Hear you on that! Sometimes, you have a system variant that isn’t crazy, but it’s yours and you love it. My silver Cube is the system that’s been with me the longest out of all the systems I’ve ever owned myself. This is the same console I got from, I kid you not, a shoebox all those years ago. 11 years later, this little guy is still giving me gaming good times.

The magic of old video game consoles!!! But then PS3 and XBOX 360 all suffered from ring of dead and whatnot problems after 5 years or something while my SEGA Genesis and PS2 still works ok lol. Only my PSP rests in pizza because it exploded when I was in the army. Good thing it was in a very unimportant place in my family home so no significant damage was done lol.

My Master System has a manufacture date of 1986. Still works. Flawlessly. I’ve never even had to clean a game, though I have cleaned them for the sake of it. That’s the oldest system in the horde, and it works amazing.

System I’ve had the most struggle with is the PS1. I keep getting them from the same place, because they sell them for cheap. I’ve had four, and they all have different problems. I just got a new one, I brought it home, and it needs new capacitors. It’s such a pain. Also, Wii’s have the worst luck with disc drives for me.

To cheer things up though, my SEGA Saturn has never had any issues after its initial adjustment to its new home, half the planet away from where it was its whole life. It’s been super lovely and has a way better disc assembly than any other console I own. This thing is stout.

There are 5 things I love to clean: My body, my home, my neighbourhood (from criminals lol), my guns and my SEGA Genesis games lololol. Dust and electronic devices are a bad mix.

Oh yeah. I had to buy the newest PS1 model because of it and since then I didn't have any issue but I sold it after it went blind.

Yeah SEGA Saturn is technically an amazing device (except how developers sometimes died from brain damage trying to develop a game on it lolol) but it stood no chance against $ony as its game library suffered from it lol.
