Hello all, I've been playing the Fire Emblem Radiant Dawn + mod and every time I reboot the game, my old save data is there. I've tried deleting the files in the game, as well as through the emulated Wii save data management menu, which I heard was the best way to do it. I was also wondering if there was a way for Dolphin to interpret the vanilla game and the mod as their own separate games with unique save data, because at the moment I'm pretty sure they share it. Any advice is appreciated.

i would say to try renaming the games; or put the save files in separate folders. i had a similar issue when i was playing a couple of pikmin 2 mods. dolphin kept loading the same memory card data for both games.

Is OneDrive syncing your files? Are you using Dolphin in portable mode?

I would try looking at the actual folder on your PC where they're located (I think there's an option in the right click menu to open it) and just deleting or moving the files outright. If they magically reappear even after this, then it's likely something aside from Dolphin that's doing it.

Would you mind going into detail about how you did that? I've already changed the game's name and file ID, so I'm not sure what else I can do to make it a unique file from the base game.

I've done this multiple times, but after I create a new file, Dolphin just resets to the saves I just deleted. I don't use OneDrive or any other cloud storage programs, so I'm not sure what it would be besides Dolphin. Maybe something to do with the emulated SD card?

if changing the games name and file id didn't work, than there's not much more you can do on that end. that usually works with the other games that i've played.
i'd say just make a copy of the save data for the game and sit it in another folder and just swap it out for the other save file for the vanilla game that you are playing.
i've only have had this kind of issue with one game, pikmin 2. i have the vanilla version sitting alongside some mods of it, but only pikmin 2 onion has done the use the same memory card as the vanilla game thing. i just made a note of which game used which save file.
i haven't heard of the emulate SD card thing. that might very well be what's causing this problem.

i found this. it might help a bit:

This is very strange.

I would first go to Config > GameCube and see what the folder path for your memory cards, either if you're using individual GCIs or a unified card. See if that's the place that you expect it is, and see if you right click on a game > Open GameCube Save Folder if that's also the place you expect, and they match. You might just temporarily move everything out of those folders, just to make sure it's not loading from some other file in there, for whatever reason.

This is good advice. My problem is with the Wii save data, but I'll see if I can apply these strategies to it. All the paths go to where one would expect them to. Also, just starting a new game on the existing save data doesn't work either, since it gets overwritten on reset as well. The same problem happens with the vanilla game as well. I can play as much as I want, but if I reset the emulator, then it resets back to this particular set of save data. I guess I could just save entirely through save states, but I'd prefer not to.

Actually, I just thought of something. This may be a bad installation on my part. I have dolphin installed on my D drive, but it also has an installation in my roaming appdata folder. Should I try reinstalling it so there's only one? Is there a way to do that?

Alright, it looks like a clean install and setting it to portable mode did the trick. I didn't back the save data up, to ensure that the machine spirits are satisfied with this little exorcism, but I didn't really have any saves besides this one, so not much lost. Thanks to everyone who came to help on this thread.
