This is SO silly, but I love it!

Basically, you attach "and then, the nightmares began" to the first line of your favorite book and it immediately makes it better.

I tried it on "Mazes & Monsters" by Rona Jaffe, an all-time favorite of mine I have re-read dozens of times and... hell yeah, it did!

Jay Jay Brockway was the first of his friends to arrive back at college after summer vacation. And then, the nightmares began.

Try it out yourself and post the results XD

A Study in Scarlet (Sherlock Holmes)

In the year 1878, I took my degree of Doctor of Medicine at the University of London and proceeded to Netley to go through the course prescribed for surgeons in the army. And then, the nightmares began.

"We don't make mistakes, just happy little accidents.....And then, the nightmares began."

~Happy Little Accidents: The Wit & Wisdom of Bob Ross~
Making that SO much more demented by being Bob Ross...
Wasn't my favorite book, but I remember reading it and thought it would be more unsettling using Bob Ross, as most if not all my favorite books are horror anyhow, wouldn't add much to them

I'm not sure it works as well with mine...

(Charlie and the Chocolate Factory by Roahl Dahl)
There are five children in this book:
and then, the nightmares began...

Well if it was the Gene Wilder movie version, I suppose the scene in Wonka's boat would be it...

(Perfume- The Story of a Murderer by Patrick Suskind)
In EIGHTEENTH-CENTURY France there lived a man who was one of the most gifted and abominable personages in an era that knew no lack of gifted and abominable personages.

And then the nightmares began...

Well this one fits but the first line already hints something's coming which makes it almost redundant...
