I played through some of this in the summer and plan to finish. Has anyone else played it or planning to? What did you think of it? Any interesting trivia? Bugs to avoid?

I remember what I played of it as a less frustrating FF7 with a soundtrack that really blew me away. It's easy to see where they could have taken more time, but if the rest of the game is as streamlined as what I played it could become one of my favorite RPGs. I hope the rest of the game follows suit when it comes to navigation and leveling. Personally, I'm sick of "the best". I want games that hit me right away and actually make me feel something.

I finished it. Its real kusoge stuff, kinda charming and often unintentionally hilarious, but gets really tedious by the middle to the point I would not recommend. If you still want to play it anyway keep in mind you can easily miss the main character's ultimate weapon forever so you may want to look at that, there's a guide in gamefaqs.

I played until the game crashed but the beginning and killing the first boss at level 1 was funny as hell so someday I will complete it

Thank you for the advice! I will be looking up a guide if there's an important missable weapon, unfortunately. Shame about the later parts of the game not being as straightforward, but I'll see for myself. Isn't it so interesting the quirks the audio engine constantly throws at you? Sometimes it sounds nothing like the soundtrack! I might have to record a few.

The only thing I remember is the poor and crude piligonal graphics, dark atmospheres, few colors used and lack of details in the environment and background. It would seem rushed and sloppy. The PSX can give much more. ??‍♂️

That might be why I like it so much. The 3D is "toned down" with the simple models so you don't strain your eyes to see tiny polygons, the atmospheres are dark as you said, and there are minimal distractions, both visually and gameplay-wise. Probably not the point of your post, but I appreciate it.
