I believe I'd understand it more if I had oodles of time (and care) to dedicate to their challenge. Newer games can feel "cash-grabby" and even ones you enjoy can feel as if they are subtle marketing machines. And the scene overall can be very toxic, and has been for as long as I've been in it (which is a majority of my life, as my folks were gamers too). Shrugs. I will say that I hate generic graphic particle effects and they're everywhere in games nowadays. I also understand why indie developers use them. And my partner is the kind of person who wouldn't even look at half the games I play, if they didn't have "flashy effects" in them. [/QUOTE]
