Hello everyone!

I’ve been sitting here thinking, is Resident Evil Code: Veronica overrated in the eyes of the gaming community? Yes, it was an important game at its time, but if you look at it objectively now, many things make you think:

1. Characters are cool , but some of the secondary characters, like Alfred Ashford, seem overly cartoonish. His behavior is more laughable than scary, and his storyline seems strange even by the series’ standards.
2. Difficulty balance. The difficulty level in the game sometimes feels unbalanced: in some areas, you’re almost invincible, and in others, enemies can take you out in just a few hits.
3. Level design. The locations, while beautiful, sometimes feel like a disjointed set of corridors rather than a cohesive space, unlike the earlier parts of the series.

It seems to me that its “cult” status is more due to the fact that it was the first major entry to move away from the PlayStation 1 format and transition to more powerful hardware. But in reality, it’s far from perfect, especially when compared to Resident Evil 2 or Resident Evil 4, which became true masterpieces.

What do you think? Maybe I’ve missed something, and Code: Veronica truly deserves praise? Or have you also noticed these flaws?I can already imagine the fans starting to comment: “You just don’t understand, it’s a genius game!” Or: “You probably haven’t played it properly!” So if you’re ready for a civil discussion, I’m looking forward to your arguments.

Idk if overrated is the right word. It’s not rated badly or highly. Maybe average rated?

If anything, I think it's overhated.

It's definitely a weaker offering than the original three, but I never got the hatred.

By the way... why is the thread title like that? Just curious.

I often notice that gaming bloggers and fans highly praise Resident Evil Code Veronica, but I’ve never understood what makes it stand out.

☝?

I swear if they don't do a remake of this before 5 and completely glance over how Wesker went Matrix mode I'm rioting. Capcom is already in hot water with me after Dead Rising Deluxe Turdmaster. I think this game is cool. Others are better for sure but for the first 6th generation outing I think it's excellent.

I agree with Waffles, I’d call it overheated more than anything.
It’s a really bizarre game, but people give it way more flak than it deserves. It’s a competent, albeit weird and goofy, Resident Evil game.
