Advice on Reaching out to Viewers

Hello everyone. I hope you all had a restful weekend. I have been thinking AND dreaming of an idea I've kept at the back of my mind for a couple of years now: creating a video game channel/stream. My mind works weirdly: i have a lot of ideas jumbled up but not really structured. It gets structured as i get my hands dirty doing the work or asking others for pointers.
So i decided to ask for advice on how to go about it. Sure i have a goal to start reaching a certain amount of subscribers and eventually make it a notable place to view content, but I'm mainly doing this to test the waters and see how i can improve as i progress. I plan on playing old retro games like Castlevania or even Skies of Arcadia. Here's my main plan:

  • Use of Laptop and Headphones to record audio. I will not do a face reveal until later
  • Designing a logo or channel intro & outro
  • Creating a schedule on streaming and uploading times
  • Creating a plan on researching different niches to reach out to different audiences
  • Potential Collab with other gaming and content creators. This could be live during streams or other activities
As I said before, I don't have a set plan at the moment, but something is just itching me to "GET STARTED". I would appreciate any advise or guidance with this!
 
Just do what you like to do and if an audience is gained that's a bonus.

Not doing a face reveal is honestly just a good idea, but I strongly recommend not using a laptop for this sort of thing: several channels I know have said that portable devises are not up to task when it comes to recording or otherwise doing any sort of media recording/editing.
 
Use that Red Circle and Red Arrow while it points to something random in a thumbnail.

I've done a decent amount of streaming/video editing on a laptop. As long as its got a dedicated graphics card that isn't shit then its pretty manageable.

I've run PremPro and AE without issues.

Well there are tons of channels for it so what will be your "good difference" so people will watch your videos instead or too? Otherwise despite your great attempts to reach out for people they won't wanna reach for you lol. This is the most important first question you gotta find an answer for even before if you should use the program "Shotcut" or "Adobe Premiere Pro".

The visual aspect of your body is irrelevant for the point of the channel, even your voice. What you would wanna say about some 20 years old game that no one said before? Nevertheless, you may show instead of talking.

For example watching X-Files for a long time made me had the idea of X-Files kind of video game channel that investigates secrets in video games but I never did. I can imagine instead of my body and voice what can interest people is learning about their favorite games that they had no idea these games had such stuff. However if you are a woman you can make money by revealing your voice and body but you don't really need it per se, just the fishbait of "I'm girl gamer" and making the channel name "Retro Girl" or some shit enough to make horny people reach out to you and shower you their bank accounts!!! All the poor simp guys will look for the love they couldn't get from their mother in you!!! ayy ayy lmao

If you decide to reveal your body and voice you gotta decide if you will randomly scream and start to twerk in the middle of the gameplay to make new generation kids have fun or your videos will be like one of those that the guy sounds like telling coffin options you have to buy for your deceased loved one by making serious and dreadful videos to appeal serious audience ayy lmao.

But then what matters is advertizing. Will you fake as a fan around social media to find any excuse to talk about yourself so people may check it out or will it go on via "friends of my friends' friends".

As for logo and shit, logo is okay for your image to make it memorable especially by making simple name of your channel a part of the logo or logo itself but intros should have never existed, they are just annoying. I don't follow much Youtuber but they have no intro or logo per se despite they have millions followers. Just sayin'.

In the end you do you in whatever way you want, as long as you have some use for people you will get followers. For example I just use Youtube as a backup and share videos platform and even I have subscribers (which I think the guy was so drunk they accidentally subscribed lol). What I see around is Youtubers make each other followed by other Youtubers so their channels show up in each others' home page for advertizing. In that context you can go for "fake followers" and upvotes route too lol.

Ah ok. I do plan on investing on some good equipment and software. I don't think my current ones are soo bad though, but i get where you are coming from.

Now you know how I feel about most part of the Youtube, and not the mention random videos like "Only smart people can beat Silver Surfer on NES" and video has the image of female and teen-appeal version of Silver Surfer lolol. I also love the pics that the woman character's official images are just censored unnecessarily like they had to hide something sexual ayy lmao.

"Lack of Censors in Tomb Raider Series" and the guy talks about the classic meme of "I was playing Tomb Raider games and my dad entered my room and asked what I was doing so I just said I'm watching porn because I cannot explain why Lara screams a lot" lol.

I'd recommend thinking about the content you want to do before worrying about the logo and channel outro stuff, I'd worry about branding like that last almost. For content I'd say do things you actually want to talk about/play over targeting things for engagement or anything like that; I think people catch on more when content feels genuine and like the creator actually has a passion about it. I wouldn't worry about building a fan base or anything like that at first, just make some videos and see how you enjoy the whole process before you start worrying about reaching out to more people. Just focus on doing it for fun first, basically.

If you're aim is to have fun, I'd say definitely don't worry so much about views. Make videos that you'd enjoy watching, have fun, and that way you can't go wrong.

If you start chasing views, you'll either succeed and end up getting tired of the constant view grind, or you'll fall and be dissapointed that you didn't get what you wanted. Much better to just have fun and make cool shit. ::coolmines
 
While your plan is definitely good and thats what those "succesful" content creators tell you in their very cool how-to videos, but to me it always sounded like some sigma grindset type of thing. The thing is, its all about luck in the first place and you miss all shots you don't take, so if you have a really good idea - make a video as good as you can and just post it. Spend more time learning editing, audio processing, maybe pay attention to writing in videos you like, thats much more important then overthinking everything else. These days kids have top end PCs and audio setups so you have to really try to not fall behind, and that can be achieved by knowing how to get the best possible quality out of what you have (including your head).

Researching niches is counter productive imo because it detracts from the original idea you have in your mind, its much better to create what you really want and see who it will resonate with than creating something for specific type of viewers from the start. Its good to keep potential audience in mind of course but your idea should come first, at least thats what I think.

Well Noted; doing it for fun IS plan. I may even decide to do something like a vlog or discussion on my thoughts on certain games, current trends, cultures or like certain historic influences gaming has made.

Thank you. The reason i brought up veiws wasn't just because i wanted exposure; its exposure for my country here Ghana. There aren't a lot of people here that do gaming channels or Vlogs, so i wanted to help get some exposure and bring us on the youtube map. We have so many videos on podcasts, social trends and influencers, etc that are Ghanaian based, so i thought it would be fun to add tech/video gaming

sigma? ive been called that before but i still dont understand what it means. Is that in the same ranking as alpha, beta etc?

Anyways, yes i actually agree with niches being counter productive. Please bare in mind that i have no idea what im dling, so the things i mention are ideas that randomly pop up in my head. I am TERRIBLE at organization, but im doing this for the thrill and fun of it. So actually attempting, like talking to you right now, is already making me more excited. I know it sound's weird, but im thats how i honestly feel. You'd be surprised how timid Ghanaians can be; the thinkers and usually shunned, but the builders, though can be toxic and aggressive, are respected more. I'm more of calm thinker trying to become a builder, so i get a lot of conflict from others here because of that: they don't believe i can do something like this or build without being feared or trampling on others.

Anyways, i appreciate your post. This is more helpful than you realize.
