Actually good Android games?

Shattered pixel dungeon is fun its completely free and has no ads. I also love fgo it is pay to win but it has astolfo and he is one of the few things that gives me joy in this world
Can't recommend shattered enough, years later i went back in and it's a completely different game while still the same, it's like i am playing the game blind again. Currently torturing myself trying to adapt to all the new mechanics.

You’re not going to get anything good for free. All F2P mobile games are bad. Best you can do is grab Android ports of non-Android games. Square Enix has a ton. I recommend the 3D remakes of FF3 and 4. There’s also the whole FF pixel remaster series and 7-9. Sega has some solid ports up too, but I think some got delisted recently.

Eternium is a very good hack n slash game. It's free and you don't need the micro transactions.

It's not common, but there are a few good, free, and ad-free games:

- Unciv: basically, Civilization V with pixel graphics. It's also open-source and you can download it from its author's GitHub.
- Underhand: very good esoteric card game. It's almost like a Cultist Simulator lite.
- Vroomies: I don't generally like racing games but this one is just perfect for mobile.
- Berserk Survivor: absurdly good Berserk game that you can get for free on Itchio
- Shattered Pixel Dungeon: one of my favourite roguelikes ever.
- Cataclysm Bright Nights: it's the best fork of Cataclysm DDA and it's well adapted to Android.

Haven't seen anyone recommending it, but Mindustry is open source and free on F-Droid. It's sort of like a mix between tower defense and lite Factorio? The control scheme is somewhat cumbersome, but you can't beat free. Epic Games also gives a free game a week, which might be hit or miss.

On the more online side, my girlfriend is downright obsessed with a GPS game (like Pokémon Go) called Orna. According to her the microtransactions are only cosmetic and it has a great community behind it. Haven't played it that much because if I had to use the phone while walking it would be a surefire way to injure myself lol
