And the video store had games for both just not much on the Sega side... So I did came across Y's (I called it "whys" like the letter because the internet was not a thing and we didnt know. I was immediately put off by it because I could figure out how to attack...(I rented it) and felt kind lame to me to run into enemies. I was a kid and ADHD one at that so my focus shifted fast. I recall later on seeing Y's sequels listed for other platforms in game magazines our version of the internet and the games Japanese Anime style had me interested in trying it again since my very first exposure to anime was also on master system with ZILLION... So after upgrading to beloved Sega Genesis i rented Ys III: Wanderers from Ys at my video store expecting it to be maybe a better version of that OG master system port. What in the heck was this? Side scrolling? HUH choppy? Again I gave up I turned it off after a bit and returned it then gave up on Ys. So I as a os gamer regret that I never went back until the release of Ys: The Ark of Napishtim on Ps2. Talk about a leap in gameplay presentation and fun. Oh and the music had me taping my foot big time... It made want to go back and play all the old games but I remember allot of the things we forgive now about these older games well to be frank we hated THE SAME STUFF then too... I vividly recall being flustered even back then SO I have to APPLAUD Falcom for not simply slapping new graphics on but essentially re- making these games not just CHANGING the graphics because OLD games will always play like old games regardless of the coat of paint. It was like finding a whole series of games that I never knew exited and waited too long to play BUT with out the frustration of playing an old game from a by gone era where controls, pacing heck even saving games was a pain. Final Fantasy has done this numerous times like say the DS releases. I understand purists but I think maybe offer both a remaster and remake as it really helps to play a game that feels and plays modern in 16x9 but doesnt loose the story or vibe. I know not everyone will agree but I think Falcom nailed this and the music... oh man SO much better as its not as limited. Most people like me never had access to a Turbo or Turbo CD so hearing these bangers as I jump and slash away was real treat and made me want to really give all these games a fair shake. I think the first game in many ways was brilliant but like many other franchises it never really shone until the tech caught up to OG vision. [/QUOTE]
