So I tried clearing the first campaign mission with a controller.
It feels a so odd, but still, it’s the game I’m currently playing with a pad. lol

Many DOSBox flavors, ScummVM, have also controller support directly built in.

With touchscreen it's even better.

You can buy tons of handheld consoles on Aliexpress. R36S is pretty popular and it's cheap, around 30€, and powerful enough to play PS1 and some light Dreamcast titles :)
