A new PSP (or Vita)...?

As we all know, there have been rumors of a new PlayStation portable console for a while now, but some interesting new technical details have emerged. The one who spoke was the leaker Jukanlosreve, who shared some interesting information.

As always, this is simply speculation, so the information should be taken for what it is. In any case, according to the user, the new portable PlayStation will be powered by a custom chip in development at AMD and produced on Samsung's SF2P node.

I highly doubt we will ever get a real handheld console from any first party ever again. Something like playstation portal 2 for sure but a real actual separate handheld à la game boy or psp I just don't see happening.

A new handheld without a dock (or TV out) is a waste of money in my humble opinion. Technology allows nowadays to run handheld games at 1080p, but enjoying that kind of detail in a 5" screen is absurd. If people want to enjoy games on the go, it's totally understandable, but allow other people to enjoy them in a big screen full of detail.

So, according to your reasoning:
PS2 => just an upgraded PS1
PS3 => just an upgraded PS2
PS4 => just an upgraded PS3
PS5 => just an upgraded PS4
And consequently PS6 will be just an upgraded PS5.
The same goes for XBox and other consoles...
Well, in this perspective I could even agree and I would say that it is the natural technological evolution, BUT it still cannot be said that they're the same thing, given that each subsequent console is based on completely different hardware architectures, which imply new computational characteristics and so functional dynamics.

But that's just my opinion, of course...

if we analyze the way the title is written, the question poised is rather a dramatic announcement instead of a question to be answered. you could also take it as a question that only future developments will answer themselves.
we can conclude then that OP was not asking US(you) "psp or vita" but rather he asked as an announcement "will the future bring us a new console, akin to the psp, or maybe the vita?!" implying that such a project is suspected to be in development.

Can we believe they'll give it any proper support, or that it will be like a new Vita where at best a small niche gets some games but overall they give up on it because it doesn't immediately sell more than a Switch? I somehow doubt they'd want to make dedicated handheld games at this point, and PS4 ports could be cool but people are too into the Switch ecosystem by now in my opinion.

Personally, I don't see a reason to use it when a Steam Deck gives me more options either way, but that's just me.

With Sony's track record with the PSP and Vita, not a chance. Even if they do release a Steam Deck-like handheld as a new PSP/Vita family line, I give it a year before Sony just says "Screw it" and starts working on the PlayStation. What are they up to now? 6? 7?

I'm with you on this. If I ever get around to buying a new handheld, I don't even use the ones I have now, honestly. But I'd want a Steam Deck, just so I could turn it into a portable Batocera machine.

Looks like they’re trying to beat Nintendo when it comes to portable gaming, but the way things are going with the Switch 2 Sony shouldn’t even bother.

While I love the PSP and Vita, I'm not all that excited about the prospect of Sony putting out some modern handheld pc with less features.

You know they're gonna do something stupid that handicaps the device and it'll be dead in a few years.

Even if it somehow survives, ill want to see some really, reeeeally good reasons software wise to make this worth even considering a purchase.
