Movie theaters hold a special place in my soul. I've loved them forever for what they can do for a movie, the economics not so much. I'm like 98% sure I'm not the only one though because I tend to see "man I wish I could've seen this in theaters" whenever like "theater reaction to Mufasa's death" and stuff like that shows up on my feed.
Those moments are cool because they're once in a lifetime deals and it's one that you have with everyone in that room; you cant really get the same feelings once they leave the rotation unless it's like an anniversary thing. Even then, you're mostly gonna get fans of the movie for a rerun as opposed to a general audience who has no idea what they're in for.
With that in mind, I got to thinking about what movies I'd want to see in theaters either for the first time or all over again on that opening weekend or day. You don't have to just pick one obviously but I think if I had to I would think, right now at least, I would want to watch Sinners in theaters.this has nothing do with it winning a vapid golden globe and not best original song.
I've wanted to watch it for a while since it came out but just never got around to it; making the fact I now have sting just a bit more. Pale Pale Moon and I Lied to You are probably like core memories for someone out there that I'm not really going to have, but so long as theaters don't like all die out then I'm sure there's gonna be another movie with a similar impact. Speaking of, I didn't watch Nope in theaters or at all yet, I've heard it's good and have no other concrete knowledge so I know I won't have a repeat of this thought once I watch that too.
some honorable mentions:
end of evangelion or 3.0
lion king 1995
pulp fiction
texas chainsaw massacre 1974
halloween 1978 ( there was some comment claiming audiences really got into it )
trap
