Movie theaters hold a special place in my soul. I've loved them forever for what they can do for a movie, the economics not so much. I'm like 98% sure I'm not the only one though because I tend to see "man I wish I could've seen this in theaters" whenever like "theater reaction to Mufasa's death" and stuff like that shows up on my feed.
Those moments are cool because they're once in a lifetime deals and it's one that you have with everyone in that room; you cant really get the same feelings once they leave the rotation unless it's like an anniversary thing. Even then, you're mostly gonna get fans of the movie for a rerun as opposed to a general audience who has no idea what they're in for.

With that in mind, I got to thinking about what movies I'd want to see in theaters either for the first time or all over again on that opening weekend or day. You don't have to just pick one obviously but I think if I had to I would think, right now at least, I would want to watch Sinners in theaters. this has nothing do with it winning a vapid golden globe and not best original song.

I've wanted to watch it for a while since it came out but just never got around to it; making the fact I now have sting just a bit more. Pale Pale Moon and I Lied to You are probably like core memories for someone out there that I'm not really going to have, but so long as theaters don't like all die out then I'm sure there's gonna be another movie with a similar impact. Speaking of, I didn't watch Nope in theaters or at all yet, I've heard it's good and have no other concrete knowledge so I know I won't have a repeat of this thought once I watch that too.

some honorable mentions:
end of evangelion or 3.0
lion king 1995
pulp fiction
texas chainsaw massacre 1974
halloween 1978 ( there was some comment claiming audiences really got into it )
trap

Resident evil 2 I think or was it 3. I saw that in the Cinema and for some reason they had the volume so high when the car crash happen it was so loud my ear hurt as hell.

Also Spirited away. I saw that anime when it came out in my country. I was walking past the Cinema and saw a poster about Spirit away and was like no way in hell anime on cinema in my country that first time I ever seen it and I mean back in the day only way to see anime was well import or watch pokemon or sailor moon or card capture sakura on TV. Anime was rare as hell.

That day I saw that movie 5 times in a single day. My record is Lord of the rings first movie I ended up seeing it 8 times

One single word: Toy Story 2, 1, 3, or 4 never existed.

Inside Out 2.

I bet it was amazing on theaters.

If that's too recent, then The Rescuers: Down Under, for much of the same reasons. And Terminator 2 🤟❗

Power Rangers the Movie (1995)

I'm not sure about others, but my experience was that my fellow watchers were families with kids, and those kids brought their Megazords with them

There were two families (not related) getting pics with their boys just because both of them brought Dragonzords; a mountain cannot hold two tigers is false cuz 4 White Tigerzords were present that night

We plebians (myself included) who can't afford such things had the chance to touch and play with the Zords a bit as the parents were too accommodating just to keep up appearances

Not to mention those kids who were wearing masks or brought their Morphers and Blasters along...

If I could time travel, I would definitively use it to go to:
Jason and the Argonauts (1963).
Night Of The Living Dead (1968).
The Thing (1983).
The Fog (1980).
American Werewolf in London (1981).

As for ones I was actually alive for and would like to relive:
Lord Of The Rings (All 3).
Spiderman 2.
Toy Story 3.
Watchmen (my dad was very irresponsible, and managed to get young me to watch it on theaters, fun times).

If that's too recent, then The Rescuers: Down Under...
My Mum literally picked me up from school early to take me to see this, back in the day. Said I had a "doctor's appointment," or something. I can't recall any other time in my childhood that I was allowed to play hooky 😅

It would have been pretty cool to be one of the first people to see Star Wars, or to see The Empire Strikes Back in the theater before you knew about the "big reveal." And I got invited to see Batman (1989) but remember being pretty sick with the flu. But I count myself lucky to have seen the flicks I did on their opening weekend. Jurassic Park. The Lion King. Men In Black. Heck, even the DuckTales movie! They're memories I wouldn't trade for anything 😇

I would like to see Superman the Movie in a U.S. theatre on opening night. I've heard so many stories on how people cheered and clapped when Superman appeared and I'd like to see that energy with my own eyes. I watched it as a kid in my country when it first played here and while I enjoyed it, I don't remember any cheering here.

I also want to watch the same thing with The Wizard (1989) also in a U.S. theatre on opening night. No one was excited seeing Super Mario bros 3 here during it's opening because the Japanese version was already imported and played locally already. But seeing people's reactions isn't the only reason. I could swear there was a scene where the protagonist gets the 5up star firework and his score ballooned like a rocket winning the tournament (which is a contradiction since you don't get points for that). That scene is no longer present in every version I can find in the internet and I want to see if I remembered it right (maybe it was deleted or altered to spare them from ridicule from the gaming community).

Call me cringe but I really love to see Final Fantasy The Spirits Within during its opening weekend. But sadly it’s exam period back then and distractions are a big no

Jurassic Park 1993, incredible first movie viewing experience.
