The DS versions of Spider-Man Web of Shadows and Shattered Dimensions are short and polished Metroidvanias with fun controls. WoS gets repetitive late on but luckily it's also just not too long. There's also Monster Tale, which is a mix of monster pet simulator and metroidvania where growing your monster friend is what you need to get past those typical special ability gates.
