PS1 30 years of PlayStation in USA

This (and PS2 & PS3) still represent when PlayStation actually meant something to me, as a console. I could add PS4 to that to some degree, but when they started going all-in on cinematic Western AAA they were gutting the more niche stuff.

That was still much better than what their PS5 generation's turned out to be, though. Like lightyears better, in terms of first party games and exclusives anyway. I don't have much hope for PS6 at this rate.

Happy Birthday, PS1!
PS1 and PS2 belonged to the "golden age of gaming" where companies were creative, daring and had less technological limitations to set their imagination go free which barely lasted until PS3-era but IMO PS3's library sucks so hard I didn't even buy it to play Metal Gear Solid 4 because I won't buy any console just to play a few games on it. Since PS3 didn't find any PlayStation library I would enjoy to explore whatsoever.

What I see is PlayStation fell into a coma in PS3, during PS4 it started to have failed organs, during PS5 it experienced death of the brain so it turned into heart-beating cadaver that is still "alive" via life support system for nothing. $ony boi genocided their "Sony" identity by killing so many of their IPs and all, they relied random people to spend their money for nothing like Concord BS so clearly video game division of Sony is not capable to survive in video game industry anymore so all they can do is tactical retreat and focus on mobile gaming lol. If they have an alive neuron left they would invest on "gamer smart phones" that they can merge their music player tech with visual "Sony quality" technologies too to make a difference to kill off Nintendo and Microsoft's any attempt to dominate gamer smart phone industry before it's too late by developing Xperia PLAY 2!!! Thus they gotta invest on kickass soundtracks like SEGA and visually appealing visuals like old CAPCOM by keeping up with current desired features like 4K and 144 HZ refresh rate (so it gotta have a foldable screen that can get bigger but it gotta be light to carry)!!! The early bird gets the worm yo. They need way more than Satoru Iwata's creativity and good decisions to survive in video game industry at this point lol.

I'd agree with almost all of this outside of PS3 being a coma gen; I think some of Sony's best stuff was during PS3 gen, or at least they had a lot of variety in their first-party. I still miss some of it like MotorStorm, EchoChrome and Puppeteer. They screwed themselves up hard early on that gen tho for other reasons.

Still can't believe they let something like Concord get funded by them, released, AND they bought the studio just to then shut them down. It's laughable, and also pathetic. I don't think modern Sony cares about innovating anything other than ways to price-gouge to increase margins and making super-safe sequels & licensed crap. Insomniac's stuck on Marvel until the end of the 2030s most like, that's depressing.

Sony always cared about indie devs and such developing games by supporting such projects in their own way.

For example PS1 had a thing called "Net Yaroze" program that ordinary people could buy PS1 developer kit to develop games and upload the game on a particular website Sony managed.

During PS2 era instead of such stuff Sony released Linux for PS2 yet it was kinda "useless" for what most people would wanna do with it.

PS3 era was when Sony invested on anti-piracy stuff instead which ended up making them develop a "development hell" console like PS3, it was hard to develop games on it due to BS way the console works. On paper PS3 is strong but not many developers could use its potential at all. Instead of PS3 developers preferred XBOX 360 because of this but PS3 was there as "an undeniable way to make significant money" and its Blu-ray technology was very beneficial which is why PS3 wasn't completely ignored or despite technical difficulties PS3 was preferred instead by some companies. It was mostly about a market game.

During PS4 era Sony chose to do more seriously to support game developers via "PlayStation 4 indie program" and by also financially supporting people in the industy under their wing by making them have relatively free environment to develop a game they want which is the reason why Concord failed and Sony even supported Death Stranding too despite not many would because "it's not even a game" lol.

During PS5 era, policies they supported regarding it continued but Concord's fail probably made Sony think twice about if they should continue this or change the way they do things.

Long story short, Sony has relatively always supported game development but while their intention is admirable but the way they did it wasn't okay enough because they could do better yet at least it's something.
