Message: [QUOTE="Irman, post: 283294, member: 622727"] Yes, I agree, but still this is the first time they did the least changes I think or maybe I'm wrong ? even in the name for NES they still added a "SUPER" which was fire but only adding a simple "2" at the end of the Switch broke my heart. 🥀 jk, still the changes were not as vast as some of the older consoles, like when Wii U came out other than focusing on advancing the Frutiger-aero aesthetics and the overall UI there was a new handheld added and how that handheld worked relatively with the console was a pretty cool new touch or the whole 3D idea of the 3DS from DS and also adding the analog and stuff felt kinda... maybe more compared to the situation right now ? or maybe that just like how I feel and it isn't true since the controllers have like changed on Switch 2 too, and don't get me wrong I like Switch it's not that I dislike the console, I would buy it for sure if I get a chance. yes I get that there's a charm in everything not being so detailed all the time, me too think that PS2 looks the best and is intended to be played on CRT forever, also with it's own controller, nothing beats the original experience. on the other hand though, modern online competitive games and things alike are a big factor in making this over-upgrading trend while unnecessary imo, they have a big player-base and they don't really care about the artistic values of games and don't have a deep look into these stuff so when they buy a console they expect what they had before I guess and don't look through it as a whole different concept. the fact that companies like Nintendo are also moving this way however concerns me, are they going to forbid the unique, creative things they were known for to appeal to satisfy the audience and keep it safe forever and just be happy with a resolution and framerate upgrade? I hope not. lol personally, I like the old-school gaming ngl, using physical discs/cartridges and the toy-like and colorful designs are fascinating for me. yet I'm not sure about Microsoft and Sony, based on what I am seeing if they dominate the the handheld instead of the Nintendo there's a high chance that they also formulate the handheld consoles into one very specific one that they call "Perfect machine" and continue to only upgrade the hardware by generation, what pushed Sony to made PSP, and also PS Vita good looking machines was the intense competition with Nintendo too I think, Vita sadly didn't made it far and not so many games released on it but I say the console had the potential. also we do have the Steam Deck, right ? I haven't ever used one but they look very good and people are saying great stuff about them, do you think Valve can compete Nintendo ? nostalgia in a sense that it means living in the past and being sad about it thinking today life is worthless, yes that is very harmful for the mental well-being too. regardless there's another concept of getting influenced by the things we had in the past. because we realized that the potential haven't fully been used and things might have gone wrong is very beneficial too imo. for example, 20st century painters and artists got tired of the realism surrounding everywhere so they looked back at primitive art to get influenced or some went out of their way and break the conventional formulas and methods, thus entered the modern era and favored moving forward too. about Sega I can't agree more, without Sega things would be very different in gaming, a damn shame Sega got bankrupt in the console making. so much love for Sega.
