as the title says, which snowboarding series do you like more? as you can probably tell by my icon, i'm a really big 1080 fan, both 1080 snowboarding and 1080 avalanche. i like both for different reasons, snowboarding has a really chill and laid back atmosphere and is the first thing i think about when people talk about the "N64 aesthetic." avalanche, on the other hand, is so perfectly early 2000s, specifically with its music choice, but i find the core gameplay to be really fun and exhilarating when it comes to racing. the trick system is also pretty fun to get good with, though i fully acknowledge it's not anywhere near as complex as the stuff SSX does

SSX3 is probably the best snowboarding game of all time, even just listening to the DJ on the radio as you freeride down the entire mountain is amazing! If anything comes close to what it feels like to be at a ski resort on holiday in the early 2000s, it's that! As much I like the 1080 series (especially avalanche) SSX is just ahead of it. It's still very close but SSX3 is a better game in my opinion!

Even though SSX3 is undoubtedly the superior game, the thing about so many games on the GameCube — and 1080 is no exception — is a certain kind of "charm", especially when it comes to the design and color palette.

To be honest, if there was ever any snowboarding game (hell, even a "sports" game) back in the PS2 which used cel-shading or pixel art as an artstyle, it'd be an easy sell for me. As far as I know, the closest example I'd think is a racing game, Capcom's Auto Modellista — but that's a little far. I'd be glad to find out about any "deep cut" which I might've missed, along the way.

No I absolutely agree, my post came across as a little strongly worded just because I have memories attached to it. 1080 is obviously better than a lot games of it's era-- and many that have released over the past 20 years, if Nintendo was still regularly putting out games of that quality there would be a lot less emulation.

You just made waves of memories flood back into my brain that sound like this
Also, shoutout to another Mental Audio cue

ive just never been able to get into ssx unforch. maybe its because ive played so much 1080 at this point, but every time i try to play ssx it just doesn't feel quite right. im sure its just something that takes getting used to, so i might give it another shot sometime... soon.
