Game Description:

Wetlands is a Action/Rail Shooter/Shooter video game published by New World Computing and developed by Hypnotix released on 1995 for MS-DOS. This version has all the needed files to run on any moderm system via ScummVM.

Setting & Plot

The game is set in the year 2495, after a nuclear test known as "Project Othello" caused continuous rainfall that flooded much of Earth. As a result, human civilization now lives in underwater cities.

You play as John Cole, a mercenary hired by the Federation to track down scientist Phillip Nahj, who originally warned that the test would cause the catastrophe. Nahj was cryogenically frozen and later framed for the disaster. As Cole uncovers the truth, he becomes involved in a conflict with the militant group known as the Volarins, who seek to gain power and further destabilize the remnants of civilization.

Gameplay Mechanics

Wetlands is a first-person rail shooter, where movement through each level follows a predefined path. The player's main focus is aiming and shooting at enemies and objects as the scene progresses.

  • There are 20 levels in total, most of which involve dodging left and right while firing at incoming threats.
  • Some levels allow slight path variation, though failure to hit certain required targets results in the player's death.
  • One level involves controlling a small drone to bypass security systems instead of direct combat.
  • The game features numerous animated cutscenes, blending traditional hand-drawn artwork with 3D rendered graphics.

I like searching for cool hacks and translations of old games that were left in Japan. All translation and hacking credits go to their respective authors. I don't translate games :)
