Game Description:

40 Winks is a Platformer 3D video game published by Piko Interactive and developed by Eurocom released on January 4th, 2019 for the N64.

The PAL version of 40 Winks.

Admittedly, I'm not really very familiar with this game but from what I understand, the Aftermarket version is more or less the same as the Prototype that was found and dumped a few years ago, only a bit more polished, you can notice the difference right away from the disclaimer screen at the beginning.

According to Google:

Key Differences: Prototype ROM vs. Aftermarket Release

The "aftermarket" release by Piko Interactive took the unreleased, fully developed prototype and officially manufactured it as a physical cartridge.
Completion Status: The original prototype ROM was a complete, playable game, and the aftermarket release is a polished version of that same finished code.
    • Bug Fixes and Polishes: Piko Interactive, the company behind the commercial release, made minor adjustments to debug and ensure full functionality on original N64 hardware. They also added features to ensure compatibility with modern peripherals like the Expansion Pak for higher resolution modes.
    • Accessibility of Features: The aftermarket release ensures all features are working as intended, whereas the leaked prototype ROMs often required specific emulators or flashcarts and might have contained unpolished debugging functions.
    • Physical Product: The prototype existed on development cartridges, while the aftermarket version is a brand new, officially licensed (from the IP holder) cartridge in retail packaging, including a manual and box.

Features exclusive to N64

Both the prototype and the aftermarket release include features unique to the N64 version, which differ from the PlayStation 1 release of 40 Winks:
        • Two-player co-op mode: An exclusive mode for the N64 version where players can work together through levels.
        • Expansion Pak support: Allows for higher resolutions and better graphical detail (Medium and Hicol modes).
        • In-game cutscenes: Unlike the PlayStation version which used FMV (Full Motion Video) scenes, the N64 version uses real-time, in-game graphics for cutscenes, similar to other N64 platformers like Mario 64 or Banjo-Kazooie.
        • Character Transformations: Players can transform into characters like a ninja, a monster, and a superhero, each with unique abilities.
