Some older games and some new, have D'n'B or Jungle Tracks. Racing games are a good genre for this. Still to this day DnB, Jungle and House music are mainly found Underground. Meaning you have to go out of your way to find them. Folk still make them, they may even pop up at random on Youtube.
There are plenty of unknown Developers on places like Twitter, or Youtube. If these old to new tracks are known more. There could be a Video Game Sound Revolution. People still talk about those old tracks in the older video games. The right music Changes and Influences a ton of things. Who knows what such tracks may awaken in others, to inspire them to make.
Hope this thread can help inspire new sounds, and through those sounds, great projects and so on.
Kerri Chandler is a good start for House Music. Frankie Knuckles?
M-Beat. Good Looking Records. DJ Krust's Do You Love Me. 4Hero and their old name Tom & Jerry, for some Drum n' Bass.
Or for something different. The Artist: Goldie. His album: Timeless (1995) Goldie also stared in James Bond's The World is not enough, as Mister Bullion. Some may know him from there.
One artist is LTJ Bukem. here is a playlist of some mixes:
Tracks like this are constantly getting used for Youtube videos/mixes or anything else that's video game related, there has to be some sort of demand for it for novelty alone but I still don't see any new devs going for it. Even those faux-retro PC games very minimalist electronic soundtracks, or try to make everything sound like Doom.
I always used to think of this as 'demo disc music' and it's so cool how the entire video game culture of that period was interwoven with it.

Reason I ask is because of another Question. Do you think that bringing things back, such the Video Linked, along with Physical Demo Disc like old Pizza Hut ones? Ps2 ones, even? Do you think this would bring back more value and reason to certain physical media? Some people still like playing the Demos even though having the full game. Maybe the Demo has specific things or an aesthetic to it. This could be used to even gain interest in older games. Think how many handhelds and whatnot, there are now. What're your thoughts on this
Also for your initial comment. If there was some kind of push, because many do not really know of these kinds of underground sounds, or bother to dig. So if that, there would not be much of a demand due to the not much knowing. Do you think it will have a major influence on Game Sound, among other things? I ask because usually when some are introduced to such sounds, they love it and their entire Musical Ear is matured, changed.
Lastly. Do you think that this Comment Topic, along with my initial post would be good for to be an Individual Thread, and threads here on this forum? If so, Would you be interested in help spreading expansions of thought like this. I try to bring certain Topics to this Forum. What are your and others who may see this, thoughts on this
The post for MrFabulous was originally for You, but since the user mentioned Demos, I thought it was more fitting. Though your thoughts on this would be great as a whole, as well.
What are your thoughts on the Migration of these Sounds to other Game Genres? Like what I gave for examples, for example. Not just for Rhythm specific games. Considering the comments above. Do you think it would benefit in a major way, on a multitude of levels as a whole?
It is not sad at all. That spirit and mood is still quite very alive. It is just back to what it was before. Underground. Things always rise then lower. This is the natural cycle of things. All that is required is more attention, push, passion, remembrance and awareness. Younger and Current Generations may not be as aware to such Sounds. People are only going to move off of what they know. Just because ones forgot or don't talk about things. Doesn't mean things have changed. Such the saying, "Some things change, some things stay the same." The Youth's job is to keep the Older up to date. The Older's job is to remind and introduce the Youth to things before them, so not to forget, negatively repeat, and to also build upon aka Quality of life changes. Which is why it is imperative to reintroduce such things.
An example is if what you say is true, then remakes and remasters would fail, because what is attempted to be brought back, only works in its original run. This also applies to all other things, no matter how rebranded or reinvented. If applying that Spirit and Mood. It is about how you go about it, first.
not really, they only have then because they still keep songs from their ps2 era, but most new stuff sounds nothing like jungle/dnb of late 90s early 00s, principally iidx which is obsessed with being modern

Taking into account the previous things written above. What are your thoughts, and how would you go about trying to reintroduce such sounds, to Current, Older and Younger Generations? As well how do you think it should go, to be reintroduced. Both indie (Meaning more in the hands of the people to influence), and corporate. I say and feel this is one of many major things that should be seriously and deeply talked about.
The Entity known as Music runs so deep that it heals and has effects on organs, among other things, including minds. Emotions, too. Because once one is open on an emotionally level, they can be manipulated like a puppet.
Again. What are your further thoughts on all of this, here, as a whole
On the topic of Sounds, to go off track from jungle and dnb a little. Consider other artist like Tommy Guerrero, Pete Rock, J Dilla, 1969 Brazilian Octopus Album, Azymuth, Cal Tjader, Marcos Valle, Pino D'Angio, Fela Kuti, Jeff Lorber, Roy Ayers for some examples. What game genre's do you think could benefit from such sounds? If one may think that is odd, just think of examples like the Bully Soundtrack: Vendetta Preps. That is a remix of Michael Jackson's Billy Jean. Or the DBZ Budokai 3 Original Soundtrack.

Has a music genre ever fallen into obscurity and then revived? And I mean actually revived as it was before, instead of a modern take? It probably has happened, but it seems so unlikely to me in this day and age.
Music industry in general loves to look "modern" and the "new". At some point japanese producers downright abandoned the old sample albums that were essential to genres like dnb because their quality is too low for modern standards (or at least they think so). Indie scene has revived interest (and sometimes corporates are influenced by indie), but its either a novelty retro thing or some weird mix of breakcore, vocaloid and other internet culture things.
Drum and Bass is still around but it's just more uncommon these days compared to the 90's/00's. Bomberman Hero is a great snapshot of it's era and one of my favorite OSTs. Here's two of my favorite mixes.
Just adding that my favourite person that makes mixes of this genre on youtube is a DJ called Pizza Hotline. And I know they make their own music as well in the same genre. I know my youtube is catered specifically to the kinds of things I click on and listen to (meaning I get fed more of them) but I do feel the popularity of youtube mix videos are doing a good service of spreading awareness of music genres like this. And I think the more popular it gets as a sort of retro-throwback style, the more likely it'll be to be used in games again. Much like the retro PS1 look is popular with indie devs.
I know for a fact ThorHighHeels on youtube makes PS1 inspired music which he's done for a friend's indie game. So there is definitely a market for these things. And it has its popularity. One that I think is growing to a certain degree but again, my youtube algorithm makes me bias into thinking it's more popular than it might be.
But it shouldn't get too popular too quickly or the same thing will happen to it that happened to seapunk.
I agree when it comes to major games!
Indie games (especially those with old Y2K vibes) are pretty good at keeping that classic Soichi Terada sort of feel around, like VIVIDLOPE for example:
It's definitely an issue with some long running series losing their identity musically for sure though. I think the best example for me is the Super Monkey Ball series. The first few games have a blend of that old school, arcadey techno and electronic stuff, whereas the new titles go for a really boring and forgettable style of music that doesn't stick out much to me...

What are your thoughts on making a list of these New and Old Dnb, Jungle, House Artist along with smaller Game Developers online. On places like Itch.io, twitter, youtube, other social media outlets, even here. Contacting them and asking them about Topics like this, to slowly get it started on a smaller level. Start off small, slow, so it won't get too popular too quick. This can be strategized as Slow Reintroduction. Same as those Mixes on Youtube. It has not blown up because just like a Plant, its growth is slow and patient and gradual. It doesn't have to be Retro-Throwback to have these tracks, like some may only associate it with. You may know some more Updated Graphic Games, that if you applied the Topic's Music Genres while playing or looking at. May find it fits. This is what I was partially talking about in a previous comments, about introducing others to Different Forms of Thought. Expanding their awareness, perspective and so on. Such sounds can be applied to any genre, through experimentation or even Bonus Ost; FPS, Visual Novel, NSFW, Pixel, Card Games, Hack and Slash, RPG, and more. Nothing can or will happen or progress, if none go out of there way to create contact. To try. People need to Talk, people need to Connect. Heal and Re-strengthen People Relations. The Internet is for this, to have it more convenient to connect with others around the World. Break that Negative Thought Practice, that Defeatist Mindset of; groups don't work and working together is doomed, whatever else.
But if some still want to speak within the realm of Retro Style. Games with the Style of Musashi: Samurai Legend on Ps2, are still being created on a small level. Bomb Rush Cyberfunk is another example in that close to sort of style. The thing is that most have their minds connected to how Corporate moves, when it should be the other way around. The People are and always have been their Life Support. Who cares what Corporate thinks, when the People create the Standard. The People are the judges of what they like, and so on. Not the other way around. It is the same with Films. This is all through Word of Mouth. Ever not played or watched something at first, because you thought is wasn't anything, until Word of Mouth came along? Had a change of heart and mind, then watched or played it, and maybe liked it? Y'all need to make and do things because you like making it, regardless of mainstream. It is the same thought process as One not wearing these pants and saying this word because it isn't hip. The People control these Social Media Outlets and Businesses. Even trends. More. Think of them like Bodies. If you quit giving your Energy aka Lifeforce aka Attention to them, it is considered Dying. If no flow of Life completely, then it is a Dead Business or Dead Website. What is a Business if not for the People?
But returning to Your say, "But it shouldn't get too popular too quickly or the same thing will happen to it that happened to seapunk." Just you having this Mindset is proof to what I've brought up. Y'all are not Brain Dead. Just need that extra push, reason, guidance, exposure to other forms of thought and sound. Even Streets of Rage Series even sampled Inner City's Paradise 1989 Album, and Public Enemy's Rebel Without a Pause.
Even though I chose Drum 'n Bass and Jungle for the Main Topic... Do you and Others here think there should be a thread on here, specifically for obscure and old and new sounds, to help with the betterment of Video Game Sound Development, and more?
What are your further thoughts on all of this....
Also here are some more game examples, and maybe some Game Developers. I initially found them on Twitter:

Here is Zirk going over some of his old sounds:
Basically what I'm saying is there are many Genre's to take from. This goes back to what I spoke about, "The Youth's job is to keep the Older up to date. The Older's job is to remind and introduce the Youth to things before them, so not to forget, negatively repeat, and to also build upon aka Quality of life changes. Which is why it is imperative to reintroduce such things." If the People would Talk to each other, ask. They may be in the know of such sounds, which will mature their Musical Ear, and help make and inspire new good sounds.

i really dont get the current day obsession with mid 90s dnb as i think its really annoying-sounding and repetitive, this genre got way better later into the 90s and into the 2000s so it's really weird all these faux-retro indie games are focusing on not only that but also all this other weird aesthetics bullshit instead of making GOOD games lol
i also just think this sort of repetitive techno music just isnt very "inspiring" as a form of soundtrack, i'd rather have something a lot more dynamic and "progressive" the original stuff tim wright wrote for the original wipeout
so it's really weird all these faux-retro indie games are focusing on not only that but also all this other weird aesthetics bullshit instead of making GOOD games lol
they look ugly because they look like awful mockeries of actual retro games and are horribly optimized and on an artistic audiovisual level, all they are doing is copying shitty internet trends. i feel like a bit of an asshole for complaining about someone's passion project especially since making vidya is indeed hard and while i would find these projects to be bad and obnoxious i wouldnt actually mind them if it wasnt for the simple fact that they are always treated as the next great thing or whatever and anytime i play them they are often just horrible facsimiles of the games they are "inspired by" and at that point why not just play the inspiration? a recent example that comes to my mind is nightrunners which just looks like a really badly designed version of multiple 2000s racing games only now with a shitty filter over everything and anachronistic music!

Maybe you could write Reviews and Articles about such Games and their Sounds. It is fresh air when somebody like you comes along, and points out and thoroughly critiques, while not having it be blind. You said you play these games at moments, so even better because you have field experience. You'd be a great help by doing this, because it helps others see what they themselves miss. Little or mostly miss. This helps people become better by way of awareness, and inspection. Maybe you know unique methods to help with Sound and Design. Could bring up and show what they are inspired by. What the initial did right vs the inspiration. Bring up creative ideas. This along with your thorough thoughtful deep critiques, could inspire Future and Current Developers. Or folk in other creative spaces. To be better, due better and more, not just creatively. Maybe you are quite knowledgeable on Topics like these, but may not know it, because you have not quite tapped into it yet.
MSX FM and Rise FM are still some of my favorite Radio stations in gaming. GTA3 just hits different. GTA2 also had Funami FM and that hits hard. UT99 had an interstellar soundtrack too. I love this type of music. Got into it a long time ago but recently it's been some of the main stuff I listen to. I guess half of this is more Trance but you know. That 90's/2000's techno is awesome. Kinda like Metal in a way with how many sub genres there are. You can get a massive headache trying to classify some of those songs.
