Hello to all the nerds around here.
I am mainly referring to the golden era of romhacking and the dawn of translation projects, when some legendary translation groups such as DeJap, RPGONE, j2e, RPGe and Aeon Genesis, and others more or less important (and today often forgotten), dedicated heart and soul into romhacking, especially of snes. Of course, you can also mention the most recent projects, but I am especially curious about the first translation projects, dating back to the late nineties and early 2000s. Ahhh... so many memories! What anxious expectations! It seems like only yesterday, and I'm still waiting for those damn promised translations of Albert Odyssey (snes) or Lady Stalker (snes) which will never be finished, alas.

Without digressing, here is my list of the translations that I awaited with greatest trepidation and that did not disappoint my expectations;
1) NES: Final Fantasy 3, Radia Senki, Captain Tsubasa 2, Villgust, Sweet Home, Just Breed;
2) SNES: Seiken Densetsu 3, Tales Phantasia, Star Ocean, Tactis Ogre, Mystic Ark, SRW3, Dragon Quest IV and VI;
3) MD: Monster World IV, King Colossus, Langrisser 2, Rent a Hero;
4) PCE-CD: YS IV, Xak 3, Castlevania, Yuna 1/2;
5) PSX; Policenauts, Langrisser IV, Bloody Bride, SRW Alpha-G, Tear Ring Saga;
6) NDS: Tales Innocente, Nanashi no Game 1/2, Saga 3, Conan & Kindaichi, Okaeri! Chibi Robo, Tinglee Balloon Trip,
7) PC: Fate Stay Night, Castle Fantasia 2, Utawarerumono, Men at Work 2, Saya no Uta, Remember11, Umineko.

I'll stop here for now. Now let's hear your choices and your most poignant memories about this topic.
Finally, tell me the title of a game whose translation seemed almost finished and ready for release, but which instead was abandoned or lost for some elusive reason, and you are still waiting for it in vain. 😅
And then don't say anymore that I don't post interesting threads.
Come on, don't be shy, you're all welcome. LYA. 😉

For a while (ok, a looong while) I checked Summon Night 3's translation progress almost daily. I know I'm gonna throw parades on the street when that's finally out.

Other than that... I couldn't speak English til 2014, at which point almost every game I was interested in had long been patched.

Still waiting (and I'll still wait) for Yakuza Kenzan eng translation, last update on Tumblr page was back in 2022 but I wanna believe it'll be finished and released one day...
There is also Kowloon's Gate but I think it'll release next year

Sakura Taisen(Saturn)
Policenauts(PS1)
Super Robot Taisen J(GBA)
SD Gundam G Generation(PSP)
Final Fire Pro Wrestling(GBA)
Sakura Taisen translation had me over the moon, I used to tell myself not to waste money on a game I couldn't read every time I saw it at the nearby shop.

Motherflippin' Racing Lagoon! There were other games I salivated over waiting for a translation to come out but none as much as this one.

Others that come to mind:
Mizzurna Falls
Aconcagua
Sakura Wars
Policenauts
Tear Ring Saga
Luminous Arc 3 (a bit of a guilty pleasure that one)
Linda Cubed
Probably a bunch of other games I can't remember right now. The funniest thing is that I have yet to complete some of these.

And of course, there are games that still don't have a translation like Segagaga.

Captain Rainbow comes to mind! I was checking that site daily until they more or less half dissolved/half released it. I'd love to see a more refined/polished one someday but beggars can't be choosers...

Currently, I'm looking forward to Hungry Ghosts and Princess Crown (if that situation ever resolves itself cleanly).

I was anticipating a good translation of Bahamut Lagoon for a while. The game came out in 1996 and it wasn't translated properly till like 2009.

For me the most hyped I've ever been about a translation coming out was Final Fantasy V. I was eagerly awaiting that one and I tried many of the false starts on that one that didn't use proper formatting on the English text and looked kind of janky. The final translation by RPGe was a thing of beauty as it used variable width font, which isn't supported natively by Japanese fonts. (All characters in non-roman Japanese share the same width) I believe it was one of the first widely shared fan translations to implement such a technique, so it was ground breaking in a way. I plan to write about it in one my articles soon as the whole story is fascinating. (Never forget the true name of our hero, Butz, that Square Enix has tried to hide!)

plenty already mentioned Seiken Densetsu 3, Tales Phantasia, Star Ocean, Monster World IV, King Colossus, Langrisser 2, Rent a Hero, YS IV, Xak 3, Castlevania, Yuna 1/2, Policenaunts, Langrisser IV, Linda³, Baroque.

and Yuna 3, OG Saga Exceed, Tales of Tempest, Culdcept DS, Bulk Slash, Grandia, Princess Crown, Silhouette Mirage, Lack of Love, Madou Monogatari I,

then games I had no idea they were getting patched Battle Blues, Doctor Hauzer, Bazaru de Gozaru no Game de Gozaru, Linkle Liver Story,Nanatsu no Hikan, Germs, Vandal Hearts, Gangway Monsters, Mad Stalker, Neugier, Psycho Dream, Jung Rhythm, BLUE, R?MJ.

a few on my wishlist Sakura Taisen 2, Riglord Saga 2, Wachenröder, Segagaga, Soldnerschild, Terra Phantastica.

SMT I'S Patch for PSX, tried playing the SNES version, but... i don't hate myself enough, so having UI upgrades and slightly easier challenge made my day seeing the prepatched one here, now i will wait for the PSX patch for SMT II
SMT2 and If PS1 absolutely need to happen.

Still waiting on that Devil Summoner patch to drop any year now, I've waited this long and will continue waiting till then

My backlog was always so full that i was never really waiting for anything...
And whenever something new appeared in CDR, it was a delight!
That being said, Luminous Arc 3 was the only game that i was looking forward to and actually happened!

And the games that i wished the most for their translations, which still haven't happened are Summon Night series!
Both the main series and spin-offs!

Yeah, Luminous Arc 3 was great to see. It's always dishartening when some games are localized and others aren't. Happened to the DS Digimons too (it was the third game, too!) but thankfully it got a translation as well.

Idk if you know or not but luminous ark 3 has an english translation already (i dont understand english very well, i thought you dont know it has an transition patch, anyway here the link on CDR (https://cdromance.org/nds-roms/luminous-arc-3-eyes/)

yeah psx smt 2 and if... they definitely need some attention

but speaking of SMT series, almost no one cares of translation of SMT Nine on Xbox OG(((
as I found some info, it exists but on pause until the finish of the Giten Megami Tensei translation

I was waiting hard for "tales of" games almost all japanese mainline
latest Tales of Rebirth translation made me very happy

still waiting Sakura Wars 2-3
according to some news, 2nd we will see in short time

Probably Star Ocean. I remember checking the Dejap site almost daily. If you'd asked kid me in 2003 what game I was most excited for, I probably would have said either Halo 2 or the Star Ocean fan translation, lol

Irony is I don't think I ever even finished it when the patch did finally release.

Bahamut Lagoon was another big one.

These days I'd really like to see Metal Max 4 and, though it's somewhat redundant with the Switch and PC versions, I'd like to play the 3ds version of DQXI some day.

Also Xenosaga I & II on DS - I hope that gets picked up some day. I think the last attempt was abandoned.
