For me, it was PSO2 FINALLY coming over to the US.

But man, they really shit the bed with New Genesis. But Sega wouldn't be Sega without fudging up one of their beloved series. Hope there's a 3 somewhere in the future, and Genesis doesn't end up killing the series outright after they milk it for all it's worth with the dress up nonsense. If they release PSO Blue Burst HD Remaster on the previous, and current consoles that would make me excited all over again though, but they won't do it. And private servers just aren't the same currently on the PC.

2018 secret of mana remake and trials of mana remake
to bad they removed the local co op in the remake of these 2 legendary games

I've been interested in upcoming games here and there, but nothing will compare to my excitement for Bomb Rush Cyberfunk a couple years ago when it was first teased. The hype paid off, because when it dropped last year, it was the most pure game I've experienced in a LONG time.

I would say there are two categories of answer here:
1 Excited for a new sequence of something that was old (like a remake, remaster or proper sequel);
2 Excited for an actual new thing, totally different in a meaningful way.
I would say I always have excitement with number one, albeit it has weakened over time, but still happens on some degree.
Now, the second, which is the most relevant way to answer this imo.

Probably last time I was excited with something completely new was probably with an MMO that I can't remember now, probably because it was a failure and my brain did the decent job of erasing the memory. I assume it was before 2015 at least.

For me, it was Silent Hill 2 Remake (I haven't played it yet). I was worried because of Bloober's track record but they did a fantastic job.
If rumors are true, they'll remake Silent Hill 1 and 3.

The trailer for Mario Odyssey with that Big Band song in it hit me right in the childhood back then, but even still I didn't end up buying a Switch until a couple years later, so I'm not sure it counts.

I guess Bloodborne maybe?
(I'm scared to look up what year that was, because the passage of time can suck it. Especially during the winter months)

on the sege era I was really waiting every single game (catridge) releases and on early ps2 console era...wow very excited!

It wasn't too long ago for me, learning that there's a new Tokyo Xtreme Racer sometime in the future. The last one I played was the Japanese mobile one Genki did and it wasn't bad for what it was, but it didn't have a very long life.

Probably when Nier Automata was announced and it was still just title art. Couldn't believe Nier was getting an actual sequel. Hotline Miami 2 as well, around the same time. Finding it really hard to think of another time more recent than that.

The last time I was excited about a release... is now, haha.
Monster Hunter Wilds, the fabled 6th generation of this legendary franchise, coming on February.

The PS4 version of The King of Fighters XV

SNK once again made my days happy with this new main installment. More agile than XIV, KOF XV is a nice Arcade experience for actual consoles.

But this game suffer two problems:

First one it's the story. Why Otona-Raga comes? What her backstory? Can she have an connection with Dolores and the rainy destroyed Verse? Dolores talks about her in the interlude scene on Arcade Mode after the 3rd battle, but there few other things she don't explain to Heidern. Raga also get an knowledge to Sylvie, who talks about her in her interview with Bellamy. Can the ashes of NESTS also known about the goddess of truth?

Second it's the marketing of KOF XV. Unlike XIV, this game get less marketing promotions by SNK. The previous game, being to PS4 and Arcades first and later to Steam, have a good marketing who includes a manga with differences between the game's script, toy collectibles, an impressive art book, as well a CG series who is recreation of KOF94 events and was scheduled to have 4 seasons, each covering every game of the Orochi Saga. Only the first season was made with a harsh cliffanger, and an turtable on the writting in the last 2 episodes, with Rugal increasing his power to become Omega Rugal to challenge Kyo and Terry in Blacknoah.

Besides this problems, KOF XV will get an position in the history as one of the best fighting games on this decade :)

the upcoming Fatal Fury game has me more excited than anything else so far on the horizon. I had given up hope just about - that there would be no followup to the classic Mark of the Wolves.... n now it's comin a couple days before my 2025 b-day. but there's an awful large shoe to fill if it's gonna be a worthy revival sequel. too bad Art of Fighting, enjoy limbo jampacked with all the great but dead franchises (particularly Sega's)

im always pretty hyped for some new game on the horizon, in the immediate future im pretty psyched for Hyper Light Breaker and Monster Hunter Wilds. 2025 is shaping up to be pretty rad.

First time I was excited for a game release was Metal Gear Solid. I bought a PS1 when I saw the demo that came in a magazine I cant even remember the name of. Played it until i had it totally memorized.

The last game release I was excited for was the physical release of Scott Pilgrim. I thought it was going to be buried on the PS3 store forever.
