One of my favorites is this one from Solid Snake, powerful and timeless:

“Life isn't just about passing on your genes. We can leave behind much more than just DNA. Through speech, music, literature and movies... what we've seen, heard, felt... anger, joy and sorrow... these are the things I will pass on. That's what I live for. We need to pass the torch, and let our children read our messy and sad history by its light. We have all the magic of the digital age to do that with. The human race will probably come to an end sometime, and new species may rule over this planet. Earth may not be forever, but we still have the responsibility to leave what traces of life we can. Building the future and keeping the past alive are one and the same thing.”
– Solid Snake

The English script for metal gear solid was closer to a "better written adaptation" of the original work in terms of how much was changed in comparison to the original Japanese script. Kojima considered it superior and even released the western version in Japan as Integral. He realised how much the dialogue was changed from his original script and made sure that translator never worked for Konami again.

I hold the western release of MGS in very high regard and only the phantom pain out of Kojima's works that he actually wrote. He's a visionary but he's really not a great writer. The translator for MGS2 even said he's terrible, or at least implied it.

I can't think of anything off the top of my head as quotable as MGS 1 was? At least not in the sense of a scene that had an emotional impact. More so meme worthy moments.

"Why?"
"It's the right thing to do"
"Ah, the right thing to do..."
"Why are you laughing?"
"Jecht always said this, and everytime he said it, it was trouble for Braska and me"

"RISE FROM YOUR GRAVE"
Is something I say when ever I have back ache and need to move

"A DUD?!?"

Sorry to be the "um akshually" guy, but that's not true; it's likely kojima just thought the english acting sounded cooler

He or someone at konami was displeased Jeremy Blaunstein tampered with the script because he thought he was "improving" it, I know because Blaustein bitched about it himself in an interview.
And about how he was never hired again by kojima's team, and how his approach was better in his mind; and then twin snakes scrapped his translation and used a new and more faithful one

When I found out I went "so That's why only mgs1 had snake do those macho one-liners.."

A sticking point to me is how he changed Psycho Mantisis' last words from being about him being nostalgic for his mom, to him feeling nice for doing a good deed

To add onto this; Kojima being made aware of Blausteins re-writes was actually what got him to be more involved in MGS' future English translations (Which is why MGS2 and 3's English translations are a lot closer to the Japanese version). It's why people like Agnes Kaku still have a seething resentment towards Kojima to this day lol. All because he wouldn't let them do their insane re-writes anymore (Seriously, look up some of the stuff she's said about MGS2 and her 'brilliant' ideas she had for the story).

To keep with the mgs theme :3

"Have no fear, Vlad is here!!", said by a bad guy in either Max Payne or Max Payne 2.

I like it, and I like how I can change it to "Have no fear, Jan is here!" ::megadancebaby

Evanescence... What a sad word...

"then again i don't have an eight inch cock, so i guess we're both full of suprises"

"Time fades even legend, and the origin of Soul Reaver has been lost long ago. But its purpose remains - to feed on the souls of any creature it strikes. Kindred, this blade and I." -Kain, Blood Omen 1

and

"The Soul Reaver, Kain's ancient blade – older than any of us, and a thousand times more deadly. The legends claimed that the blade was possessed, and thrived by devouring the souls of its victims. For all our bravado, we knew what it meant when Kain drew the Soul Reaver in anger – it meant you were dead." - Raziel, Soul Reaver 1

I was one of those kids that thought Sheng Long must've been a secret character lol

Dracula: It was not by my hand I was once again given flesh. I was brought here by humans who wished to pay me tribute!

Richter: Tribute!? You steal men's souls, and make them your slaves!

Dracula: Perhaps the same could be said of all religions…

Richter: Your words are as empty as your soul! Mankind ill needs a savior such as you!

Dracula: What is a man? A miserable little pile of secrets.
Richter Belmont and Vlad Tepes Daracula. Castlevania: Symphony of the Night

Everyone is a hero and a villain. And no one knows who is the victim, and who is the aggressor. And what is “peace”?
Brett Thompson. Ace Combat Zero: the Belkan War

Lofquist: Loiselle! You're flirting with disaster!

Loiselle: I share, I don't flirt... I seduce.
Annika Lofquist and Louis Loiselle. Rainbow Six Lockdown

"All your base are belong to us."

And on a more serious note:
"Take a look at this tiny place. To the heart seeking freedom this island is a prison surrounded by water. And so this boy sought out to escape from his prison. He sought a way to cross over into other worlds.

And he opened his heart to darkness." - Ansem, Kingdom Hearts

One thing you can count on: You push a man too far, and sooner or later he'll start pushing back.

A man chooses, a slave.. obeys
