At roughly 4x the framerate of the SFX-chip games, lad.Really? I mean basically it was the same level of 3D as Star Fox and Stunt FX 3D. I didn't think it was that good. And most of the games were like Tennis, Wario and Jack Bros, were basically 2D with more background layers.
Mario Tennis? Looks lame on YouTube, right? Play it on VB, and you have an instinctual sense of ball location at all times without the need of a "shadow hint" on the field - it plays on the way our brains are wired for depth perception. Wario? The 3D effects and ability to pop into the background were as impressive as the Mode-7 effects in Super Castlevania IV in 1990/1991...but without the obnoxious slowdown (which I've only seen a couple of minutes of on real hardware for the previously-listed reason). I didn't play Jack Bros., but being able to see the next level below in 3D sounds rad af.
And that's the ticket. The 3D effects in these games were spectacular in their time and price point.
I really need to add a VB player to my hacked 3DS.
