The Pokemon Mega Thread

Ok, what can you do in the game it's all about Pokemon battles or do you have to do other tasks?
well the taks are extremly easy to perform but some need the second required ability to partake the mission to succed. and some are bit hard because you find certain pokemon like shiny wich is 50/50

I ask the same question about every new 3D Pokemon games since the Pokemon anime: Is it very close to how the anime was? If not I will ignore this game too. lolol
it tryed to replicate the anime aspect of it but it missed the loud shout "evade" option. but you can use protect move on most pokemon can evade. also i forgot to tell is XENOBLADE CHRONICLES INSPIRED MECHANIC.

That sounds like something completely different than what you are used to in the other Pokemon games but it sounds promising maybe we need something new instead of always the same. Thank you for your explanation buddy.

It shouldn't be hard for Nintendo to develop a Pokemon gamemap like GTA San Andreas (so it doesn't have to be really big but filled with 3 city and tons of villages and different bioms from forest to desert) + you find people to travel with + instead of just pokemon battles there are side quests as adventures to enjoy that is beyond fetch shit and pokemon battles + detailed camp system = Me dream Pokemon game. They implemented "meh" camp stuff but not the rest of what I wanted. Pokemon Black series had "1% closer to what I wanted as gamemap" and that's all about it SMH.

I reached rank D and I'm basically going after the

shark loans arc (yeah, those guys).

I hate that people are already spoilering heavy stuff that I never expected at all.

Like apparently E being Volo??? And here I thought he was Elisio but already like in his 50s or something for whatever reasons. Which would have been weird because this game shouldn't take place that much later compared to X/Y.

Also idk but it's since 2 days I stopped playing, felt a little of burn out, but the gameplay loop is always good. And thank god we can talk rationally about it here, for the good and bad parts. On socials the situation is insane.

Personally I wanted games to start being designed for long time fans

Something like the gamecube games, Idc about most open worlds but I'll take 3 dense areas like batman arkham city over a giant empty map any day

I dont expect mainline games to be made for me, they always want it to be for children; but I had some hope for the spin offs..

I watched a few videos of it and yes it looks interesting and the city is huge and you can experience a lot. The combat system looks a bit unusual but you understand it quickly.

What do you think are the best and worst pokemon games? (Besides ZA)

Best mainline is HGSS
Worst mainline is SwSh

Best spinoff is (probably) Mystery Dungeon Red (only played that one and Super)
Worst spinoff is Dash

Now, I've played far from every spinoff game so I of course could only count the handful ones I've played, but it's kind of tough because I feel like I've enjoyed most of the ones I've played in similar amounts, just that I'm biased towards dungeon crawlers so I went with Mystery Dungeon Red, but I feel like I enjoyed Snap and Stadium just as much.

The best for me it's Black/White 2. The pixel art peaked and personally i like a lot the pokemons of that generation. After that 5th generation started a slow and steady decline.

The worst is Legend: Arceus. I don't understand why people likes that game and call it a fresh new game with lots of cool and new stuff. All the locations are big with really nothing of interesting to visit, just big open spaces with low effort on adding any element.

I don't think there is an objectively good and bad pokemon game since all of them fall into the same spectrum as being good with some bad elements into them, just like any other form of cricisim any other game or other piece of media can get.

That being said, the only Pokemon games I really enjoyed is Gen IV Pokemon (Diamond/Pearl/Platinum/Heart Gold/Soul Silver) and the one I didn't like much is Gen I (Red/Green/Blue/Yellow)

The best for me were : Pokemon Heart gold and soul silver Pokemon X & Y, Let's go Eevee & Pikachu and Pokemon Legends of Arceus, Pokemon Black and White.
That was my taste others probably like other parts it always depends on taste.

I think the absolute best was Silver (even though it was really hurt by cartridge and technological limitations axing both the Safari Zone and Viridian Forest, as well as some other areas).

Worst? Probably Diamond, Platinum and Pearl -- that's the first generation when I felt like the wheels were coming off.

I'd say the best is BW/B2W2 with the worst being Quest or SV. I genuinely haven't felt anything while playing a Pokemon game since XY; everything else has been 5/10 or 7/10 at best

Worse ios subjetive, i have found people actually enjoying SwSH (Bit barely anyone that liked ViSt LMAO) that said:

Worst must be Pokemon Red and Blue
Sorry Genwunners, your classic is a broken mess that aged poorly, mercifully FireRed/Green Leaf has made the games officially palatable and there is a crapton of Hacks that make it great, now if you excuse me i hear angry stomps next to my door *Prepares a Shotgun*

Best is definitively The Black Duology, great story, HMs are either axed or improved as a exploration mechanic, music is great and while derivative of Gen 1, the Gen V Dex is easly the most memorable and the second most unique one next to Gen 8 (Yes, i like Gen 8 by its dex, hot take)

I will always be partial to HeartGold and SoulSilver, though they have issues, and finding a copy complete with the PokéWalker can be very expensive. The SacredGold and StormSilver hacks fix those issues.

Black and White and their sequels are fan-favorites and I can see why, they do lots of things right and have a darker story. They also have improvement hacks.

I think the Pokémon Colosseum games are kind of underrated if you want a more story-driven Pokémon game with different mechanics (but still turn-based combat). In terms of spin-offs I also like Pokémon Snap and Mystery Dungeon (which is part of a larger roguelike franchise). I've heard good things about Pokémon Conquest, which is an SRPG. And Pokken Tournament is a cool fighting game.

There are some cool indies, like Pokémon Close Combat (a 2D fighter) and Pokémon Sage (a fakemon region). Sage was never finished but there's a very substantial demo.

Finally, there are some really impressive overhaul hacks for the older games like Pokémon Polished Crystal and Seaglass Emerald if you want to experience those in a different way. And Pokémon: The Pit is a really interesting/challenging fanmade roguelike.

I remember reading that people were expected to leave the room while their opponents chose their teams in Pokemon Stadium 1 & 2 as to preserve the challenge, and that this was just the normal thing to do.

I'm mesmerized by this because it both does and doesn't make sense to me... I mean, yeah, witnessing the exact team combination Player 1 chooses puts them at a gross disadvantage by allowing Player 2 to strategize around said team, but, at the same, everyone kind of covered their bases anyway? Pretty much everyone I have ever competed against built their team by picking an Electric-type, a Water-type, a Fire-type and a Grass-type anyway, leaving only two out of six slots as wild cards.

NOW, those two choices can really make or break the game for both players, but filling them with other types has always been my experience, too, so I'm not sure having prior knowledge of them coming into the match really factors in when it's the players themselves who choose in which order their Pokemon are sent out, too.

It's certainly an interesting scenario.

Was this something you or friends ever did?

We never left the room, but we definitely had a rule about not looking at each other’s controllers so that we wouldn’t see what move the other person picked, since it didn’t show on-screen until the moves played out.

I never heard about this, but it makes sense, even if it sounds extreme. Of course, it would take a great deal of honesty do this, and that isn't the norm.

There's a pretty funny game called Screen Cheat that plays on this notion in reverse, as everyone is constantly cogzant of everyone else's location.

Man that game rocked! It’s simultaneously the birth and destroyer of friendships.

Yeah, that etiquette was real for some people. Stadium didn’t have any privacy during team selection, so if you were playing seriously, it was kind of expected to look away or leave the room. Not everyone did it, but it was a way to keep things fair, especially when counterpicking could swing the whole match.

most teams followed the usual type spread: Electric, Water, Fire, Grass. The last two slots were where things got interesting. That’s where people threw in weird picks, status setups, or bulky tanks to mess with expectations.

Even if you saw the team, you still had to guess the lead and play around switches, so it wasn’t a guaranteed win. But yeah, knowing those last two could definitely give someone an edge.

We didn’t always leave the room, but we had a “no peeking” rule. It was more about keeping the match honest than anything else.

I vaguely remember doing something like that. Or at least not looking at the screen while the other person picked their team. The big one I really remember though was screen watching in split screen games. You were expected not to do it but everybody did it and any time anyone seemed like they were playing too well they'd be accused of screen watching.

I don't know but I have my own etiquette.

Fuck off with the messy smelly foods. Treat my property with respect. You break anything? You buy it.
