The Switch 2, the Super Switch, the Switch U...whatever awful name they go with (Super Nintendo Switch you cowards), it's release is inevitable. There's an expected announcement after the holiday season, to avoid cannibalizing sales of the current hardware, and a good deal of it's specs are known. Brass tacks, it's a bigger, more capable Switch, and barring some new features in the dock or other accessory? There shouldn't be any substantial differences, it'll be a hybrid console with an emphasis on handheld play.

That in mind, is there a game, or potential launch lineup, that would encourage to buy it day one? Reports at trade shows have said Zelda: BOTW running at 60 fps with no perceivable loading times has been shown, would a remaster along those lines be compelling?

Is there a sequel, or a new installment of a beloved series that would make your wallet itchy, like Ice Climbers: Revengeance, or Animal CrossingxSim City, where you beat Tom Nook in the election (and avoided the violent reprisals he ordered on you and your supporters) and now you build out the town and manage it's infrastructure.

Maybe a port of a game that wasn't feasible before, apparently Unreal Engine 5 runs on the system in some capacity, so a good portion of modern releases are possible with realistic cutbacks. Given the work done to run on Steam Deck, and the effort made to get The Witcher 3 on the existing Switch, a collected DLC edition of Cyberpunk seems like a safe bet on the device. Given it'll have Nvidia silicon, it might even look half decent with DLSS enabled while docked.

Anyways, I know this is a bit of a generic kind of topic to make, but I'm curious what y'all are looking forward to, if anything.

The new Shinobi game that Sega is coming out with and the okami sequel is what I'm looking forward to on the switch 2

I'm a lifelong Zelda and Metroid addict - while my higher reasoning and general disdain for the modern console gaming industry may compel me to question my impulses, I know myself well enough to know that an entry in either of those franchises would eventually break my self-control and get me to buy just about any system, I'm ashamed to admit.
Likely via a second-hand seller though, I have at least that much respect for myself!

Never bought anything on launch day because i'm poor. The biggest factor to buy a console for me is if any user friendly hack was available for the console.

I might have to wait for sales for the Switch 2 (still wouldn't know if I could buy it)

For me, it’s not so much as a single game (I never buy consoles for that), but several specific features I’d be interested in toying around with. I’m up for this New Switch U 3D+ with Sprinkles if it includes at least some of the following:
  • Significantly higher build quality than the original Switch. Mine succumbed to both Joy-con drift and a permanently scratched screen within a buggering year of owning it. I was so disgusted I gave the console to my sister and never looked back the whole generation.
  • FULL backwards compatibility with Switch games. Don’t fuck me on this, Nintendo. I want to play everything I already bought with zero issues. I don’t care if they’re upscaled or run faster or whatever, though it would be nice if they were. Just let me play the games I bought.
  • An ergonomically-redesigned handheld mode. I used to have a lot of trouble holding the base Switch model… this is probably just a me thing, but I’d like a bit more grip on the device so I don’t drop it. I may have the cumbersome hands of a silverback gorilla, but I’d wager so do many of Nintendo’s audience.
  • As much accessible legacy content as is feasible. The Switch has an OK library of old Nintendo games through its online service, but it’s still not up to the standard of the Wii U, which had GameCube and DS games. Surely the Switch 2 can let me play all first-party titles up to the Wii? …Yeah, that’ll never happen.
  • A BETTER D-PAD OH MY GOOOODDDDDD. That thing on the Switch is like a medieval torture device. Nintendo, you know how to make these things. Let’s get to it — daddy wants his 2D platformers to work properly.
  • A larger handheld screen. Even the base Switch’s screen is still a bit small for me… I’d like something big, beautiful, and 4K. If my laptop can do it, the world’s largest consumer entertainment corporation can, too.
I don’t own a current-gen console and haven’t since I bought my original Switch in 2018. Sony sucks monkeys now, and I don’t know how close we are to the next Xbox, so I’m a little timid to buy one this late in the generation. I don’t have any ideological oppositions to Nintendo, so if they’re willing to not screw this up, I’ll buy one of these. Well, OK… let’s do a new Elite Beat Agents too, please. ::smash

I didn't buy the Switch in the first year so I will do the same with the other console (unless they decide for a real new F-zero or even Kid Icarus but that would be surprising).

As for the D-pad I agree, the Pro Pad is much better but less convenient in handheld mode.

I’d like something big, beautiful, and 4K.
I think this could be an issue for the price, I think people wouldn't pay too much for it. It's also a matter of good performance and personally I'd be fine with 1080 because 4K is better on an actual big screen than handheld.

Man, the drift issues are such utter horseshit, it's crazy. You know how I ended up fixing mine? I opened the thing up and put a folded up piece of paper underneath the sticks. That's it. That's how easily avoidable that issue is - I refuse to believe nobody at Nintendo noticed that design flaw.

How something that incredibly overpriced can be that shoddily made is beyond me. Sure is convenient for Nintendo that they break so quickly though, huh? "Odd."

I'm more interested in a Steam Deck 2. We all know Nintendo doesn't really care about hardware, only the titles on their system, which if a few people didn't know, the Steam Deck can emulate their legally acquired Switch games at a pretty much locked 60 FPS.

NNNNNNOOOOOOOOO

A couple of these we know are happening at least. They did confirm backwards compatibility, I think that's why the chipset is another Tegra, despite being made for cars primarily. The screen is larger, but not an OLED, sadly. Fingers crossed for the rest, I know my Switch lives on the dock permanently for a lot of the same reasons, doomed to live vicariously through the Pro Controller.

Look I love portable gaming, my favourite, so thats why I chose to buy a Switch Lite, it just looks better and feels better on the hands. If the "Switch 2" dosent have a "Lite" equivalent to it, then I might just skip lol. I learned the hard way from the 3DS family system, always wait for the last "revision" of the console before jumping in, and then you can judge what hardware format better suits your gaming needs.

I believe switch 2 HAS been confirmed to have full backwards compatibility. I hope that includes physical too. So yes, Nintendo won’t “fuck you on this”, meaning you’ll have more unanswered calls.

A positive update, most leakers and insiders are pretty much confirming that they've gone with Hall joysticks, which should (mostly) eliminate stick drift.

Has anyone else seen those supposed leaked mockups of the physical hardware? Is there any truth to that? I do like what I’m seeing, I must admit.

Nihon falcom could literally make all their games exclusive to switch 2 from this point on and i'd never get it, because nintendo has gone over the event horizon of just how big of a douchebag of a company they can be for me to tolerate it, so no, nothing, even breath of fire 6 (or 7, if you want to count that mobile game as 6) or wild arms 6 wouldn't get me to buy it.

I'd like to see their backwards compatibility services expand greatly closer to e shop levels because they love to tear things down, but rarely if ever leave a substitute. As much as I would like maybe a dark souls iii or sekiro on it I kind of just want new fresh stuff some third party, but exclusive to super switch. The current shop just feels like a landfill of good enough games for it and then the coveted never on sale first party games. The joycons better never break. Hopefully the cooling is a little better this time around. When we do get a third party that is exclusive to switch like monster hunter rise itd be nice to see it stick around later. As much as I would like all monster hunter titles immortalized on steam if the switch is going to be the biggest player pool I dont like how it eventually is divided upon for the other options.

Maybe another Animal Crossing where you can edit your island or town and instead of paying Bells to move a villager's house maybe make it to where you can grab their houses and place them in a different area. Also maybe allow your character to use a kick scooter or bicycle to get around faster.
