What are some settings, thematic elements, or just general "vibes" you always enjoy seeing in games? It can be anything, from a historical setting, to an art style, to a genre theme. It's a vague question, I know, so just what do you "vibe" with?

I'm a sucker for Samurai and Ninja games and media, Historical, Fantasy, or Sci-Fi. I can have a good time with even deeply flawed one's because of my bias for them.

I've always loved games with a Cel-Shaded artstyle. It never ages.

Monster Hunter gave me a great taste in themes and its style with the overall way of survival, grinding, making awesome armor that you earn yourselves, and the food~?. And technically my first Monster Hunter was MH: World.

I almost forgot, my most favorite art style in gaming, was Garou: Mark of the Wolves. I mean the art styles, the visuals, the characters and the sets were awesome. Sadly that was the last 2D style fighting games I played.

A bit trite and archetypical—but I love me some good ol’ early 2000’s janky 3D, Dreamcast-ass models ^-^

The cartoony Halloween aesthetic off the top of my head I think of ‘Luigi's Mansion’

I will never pass up an opportunity to express my love for Munchables, I love the game’s style so much

(I need to get my own screen shots of Munchabules)

Idk if it has a proper name, but games with doll house look, like Munchabules (again I love the cardboard detailing), ‘Pokémon Rumble’ and ‘Puzzle Bots’

This artstyle is cool, wish there was more like it (game is The Dark Spire for Nintendo DS)

  • I love 2D HD. It's exactly what I dreamed of gaming looking like in the future when I was a kid. Games like Wonder Boy in the Dragon's Trap HD are what I've always wanted.
  • Mixed 2D/3D is also acceptable if they get it right, such as with Dragon Quest III HD. That has turned out better in recent years as technology has done better at blending the two art styles.
  • Cel shading might be the best way to do 3D. It ages very well and has a beautiful vibrant look that all that grey-scale "realistic" trash can't match.
  • I enjoy a good urban setting if they can make it feel alive and not just a bunch of big boxes in a concrete field. Urban Asia is particularly comforting.
  • Fantasy settings are best when they aren't trying to be realistic, but as fantastical as possible. Games like Xenoblade and Metaphor have the right idea, while the recent FF does not.
  • Anything with a large cast of playable characters is enticing. That goes double if a significant amount are cute anime women.

Anything that manages to convincingly and/or charmingly portray fogs and mists in an interesting, atmospheric and compelling way.

The examples I'll bring to the table are obvious, but here are they, nevertheless:

(On a slightly unrelated note, I'm surprised FF/PZ isn't brought more to the table in most of the threads here. I must've seen one or two, tops)

Western and Post apocalypse theme has always been my favorite, Fallout New Vegas is probably the only thing the closest to combination of those two.
