Regarding the Japan original release: Text + Audio = English Subtitles in movies = Japenese HardSub A few notes on the Italian Translation: The game must be run from the .cue file, it won't work in any other way whatsoever because the .iso which accompanies the .cue is non-standard and needs the .cue to start properly (otherwise you'll hear gibberish noise audio). You need to unzip the zip, which contains a .iso and a .cue. Open the .cue only with you favourite emulator. Enjoy... ehm ... this gem of a game!

This is quite a fun game.
Works on pops, just convert it to bin/cue before converting it to vcd

About time they added this game :loldog
Last year I spoke with Spike about adding this game to the archive, after I randomly found an Italian translation on a YouTube channel. Now, more than 10 months have passed, but the release is finally available for everyone! (I also found the only translation with Latin characters for 'Fist of the North Star' for the first PS, but that one has already been published and has had an incredible response from users).

The .CHD is working great on Retroarch on every core i tested with the music.
I tried to convert it to .PBP and i tested it with all cores of Retroarch. Some have no music at all and others have a lot of soung glitches.
So your choice is the .chd.

The .chd is not playing songs during the level.

TLDR:
  • Use the FRESHLY uploaded Pepsiman (Japan).chd - The previous Pepsiman The Running Hero (Japan).chd was buggy, thanks for sharing!

I just tested it again (Pepsiman The Running Hero (Japan).chd)
  • Music plays fine on ReARMed (RArch)
  • Menu+In-game Music doesn't work on SwanStation / DuckStation

For future note, the version
  • Pepsiman The Running Hero (Japan).chd has weird sectors and is compatible with the T+It translation. The non-translated original causes audio issues (missing audio) when converted to CHD on certain emulators. The translated version, on any emu, produces terrible audio noises in place of music when converted to anything besides its own cue+iso.
  • Pepsiman (Japan).chd (Redump standard) works well either in original BIN+CUE, and in CHD in any emu. This version doesn't work with the T+It translation.

Thanks for sharing, enjoy!

It's been badmouthed for quite some time, however must say that after trying it I find it entertaining, and the PS1 aesthetics are chill (cubic) & pleasant. Nice one Pepsiman!
It is fine for a Pepsiman game but it is not an easy game since it requires memorization of the levels of the game in order to master it.

This Game, although it did not come out of Japan, does not detract from the fact that the game was popular outside of Japan not only for its theme but for its concept of collecting Pepsi cans and avoiding obstacles along the dangerous routes that Pepsiman will have to run to give them Pepsi cans for people who are thirsty and also that the Italian translation of the game is well done.

PEPSIMAN!!! 🔵⚪🔴
