Nintendo Direct Thoughts?

As a JRPG fanatic I loved it. New DQ, FF, FE, KH, and Xenoblade games, how can I complain? Fire Emblem looks like it's playing it safe (aka, going back to a Three Houses formula), but that's not a bad thing if the formula still works and doesn't feel recycled yet. I love Octopath Traveler so I'm more pretty excited for a new (turn-based!) Final Fantasy entry in the same style. Will wait for more info on KH4 and the new Xenoblade game before I get hyped.

I'm also unreasonably excited to get FFXIV on Switch 2 so I can play it in bed, never got round to setting it up on my Steam Deck.

It did not make me want to buy a switch 2...

That muramasa game just looks like the vita version + dlc (??)

A bit mid to be honest. Waaay to many ports. How much time do you need to dedicate to these when we already had three whole showcases this week? I'd gladly take a 20 minute Direct with just Nintendo games and new releases (like Deltarune and KH4) instead of +30 minutes of port bloat.

I'm super hype for FE and Pokopia DLC I guess.

Also, OOT?
We could’ve gotten something new planned instead.

Though then I remembered that not everyone has easy access to the original OOT. But I still can’t look away from the mass amount of REMAKES we’re still getting from each game company.

I would've been fine with an HD port of the 3DS version.
Oh yeah!

This is the second time I forgot about that in here. What the hell my complaint now feels more justified! ANOTHER OOT REMAKE! Jesus christ.

What did you guys think about Link's design in this remake? For me it looked a bit weird, don't know how to explain it

The 3DS remake is also not very accessible. I think N64 OOT is at least on the NSO service, so people can access it 'legally'. I just play the redux version on my Summercart, to me that's the best way to experience the game. I don't think a remake will capture the same melancholia and strangeness of the original. The brief teaser they showed looked very modern and Unreal enginey.

The issue is that the remake will either be a 1:1 to the original (so not really a remake but a remaster with a new coat of paint) or will be different but then why should we change an already perfect game? Twilight Princess was already a soft remake of Ocarina of Time back then!

I'd also add that going back to the linear progression after BotW is an absolute regression of the franchise and that I'd rather see an entirely new entry or a remake of a game that didn't get any until now (not ALTTP as it got one on the GBA then ALBW nor the Gamecube titles as I'd rather see a port of their Wii U remasters).

Zelda 1 could've gotten that remake to make fans wait for the next mainline entry instead.

I still need to see more of OoT (how on earth is it releasing this year if that's all they have to show?) to see if it has new content, I know there are tons of people who think it's a flawless masterpiece that needs no changes but I feel it could definitely benefit from new content, that Hyrule Field in 2026 just isn't gonna cut it

I guess they could throw in the BOTW stuff into Ocarina that justifies the scope of things as it once did to folks back in the 90s.

But like @Ikagura has mentioned. This kind of treatment should’ve been deserved for Zelda 1. A 3D Zelda 1 where the map is super detailed & with more secrets to interact within the environment would’ve been so cool. Not this company though!

I one way I totally understand old fans thinking it's a flawless masterpiece that should never change because it's one of the 3D games from the 90's that aged the best and is still modern in its game design.

But I agree that Hyrule's field is very empty and is more like a glorified hub level to transition between two zones than an actual level.

Or even that one 2D tech demo of BotW which was a great basis for the full game.

True. Also those graphics almost look like UE5. Hope they don't sacrifice visual art for hyper realism
At best, it could be “Nintendo, hire this man!”
At worst it could end up as “Focus, M!”

I gotta check that tech demo out, thanks for mentioning it.

Isn't it a weird era? People mocked Nintendo for the "low quality kiddy cartoony graphics" compared to the PS360 because hyper realism was "in" back in the 2000's yet nowadays people are now saying "don't do that".

I wouldn't like Zelda to look realistic, even Twilight Princess was colorful and had funky looking characters.

You're right, never thought about it. I guess before it was something new and it seemed like the future of games. Now that it has been overly done, everyone (including me) are sick of it lol

This, but also because the game engine itself is wonky as hell & gave us some badly optimized games.
