Ya.... that tracks.
It seems after Defiance, the LOK series can't catch a break.

Honestly....

I don't know how many of the writers of even the team that did Defiance are still working or alive.
They had the dark gothic Shakespearean style like the original Blood Omen had that made the game come to life.

Of course, the voice actors made the characters. Michael Bell who voiced Raziel, is in his mid 80s now and retired if I remember right. Simon Templeman, the voice of Kain throughout the franchise, is still active and doing roles, so he would be up for it I suppose, but he's also in his 70s.

Sadly, the voice actor for the Elder God, Tony Jay passed away in 2006. I'm not sure about Mobius and the other VAs, but yeah, most likely the game would have been dumbed down and made politically correct, losing that dark, brooding grit that made the others amazing as they are.

Sad, but I don't hold out any hope at allf or new LOK or Beyond Good and Evil sequels, not that I particularly want to give Ubisoft any money anyway

The whole Eidos-Montreal thing is such a bummer. Deus Ex: Human Revolution is an all-timer, whereas Mankind Divided, Guardians of the Galaxy, and Shadow of the Tomb Raider are all very good.

The only miss they had was the Thief reboot. It was still a fine game, just very disappointing.

the current BGE2 is already unnecessary, because the fans we WANT a proper sequel as the original game ends with a cliffhanger and not a M-rated prequel that doesn't need to be overambitious

The voice acting in these games was far and above ALL voice acting in all games for a very long time. It still gives one chills.

The series is also just plagued with other issues that are odd choices in terms of the games being tied to each other, blood omen 2 was simply a retooled version of another game to utilise an existing IP and it's terrible, even for the time. Soul reaver was its own property till the Kain property was tacked on. It's very much a melting pot of different ideas.

Defiance, the OG blood omen made by silicon knights and the soul reaver games are otherwise pretty good.

A someone who loves Kain and the first game the most, I would have loved to have seen what would happen if silicon knights did a straight sequel instead of having the rug pulled out from under them.

The franchise is a mess, but I'd still love a straight sequel to defiance as I've a soft spot for it as a series despite its issues. I love just hearing Kain speak, one of my favourite fictional characters, easily.

Also can it actually come back as a franchise? it's very much of it's time in many ways, maybe it's had it's time in the sun and I'd really rather not have turd released that ruins what legacy it has.

Shame about Eidos Montreal in general, their new Deux ex games were masterpieces and the second one ended on a cliff hanger.
