The reason for this post is because i find that the term fan translation is In my opinion, a bit too narrow and vague to apply not just video games but also anime, film, tv shows, manga, literature, and music, and it's a bit more technical, i suggest that we should coin a new term for fan translated video games, give me your word coinage and meaning of the term, that would be catchy to remember, but has technical depth that could actually make sense to what it means, and works as an academic term
My suggestion is: Softlation (Portmanteau of Software And Video games), because most of the games were made as software and they can be translated in different ways unofficially, distributed, created and done by fans or communities, it also a bit precise and catchy because of the pronounciation and accurate because of the nature of fan translations in video games
