Way back in 2017 (when I was only five, Nintendo would change the gaming world with the launch of the Nintendo Switch, the handheld/console or whatever you call it device, both being able to play on tvs and portably on the go.
However I was only five when it came out, just gained consciousness the year before and my only experience with Nintendo or gaming as a whole was the NES classic edition and a black Wii family edition console (which had just broke), not much so I really didn’t care for gaming back then, more of so treated it as a toy to play with during play time.
I didn’t see the value of playing games back then, I was only in kindergarten, why waste time jumping through pipes and stomping on koopas?
Anyways in late or early May of 2017 my mom received a small bonus and what else to do with it then buy a black edition Nintendo Switch!!
I don’t remember much but I do remember me and my sister were sitting on the couch when we saw our moms car pull onto the long driveway (we used to live on a massive hill) and soon into the garage, she opened the garage door holding a GameStop bag and before I knew it my mom was plugging in the switch into the living room tv and soon I me and my sister were playing Mario kart battle mode (me and my sis both sucked at Grand Prix but not any more) battling against each other.
For a while we only had Mario kart but just around the corner was Super Mario Odyssey
Gifted by a relative while I was grounded so I couldn’t play it (before you ask I don’t remember what I was grounded for I forgot) but when I finally could man it changed my life, Jump up Superstar is forever stuck in my brain, really shaped me into the person I’m today and I’m not complaining ever!!!!
And a year later another Mario adventure was around the corner, Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle, I could only get pass the first world (I sucked a lot) and that’s all I remember, because this was all so long ago so I forgot.

Ok so that’s pretty much it, not much and I’m trying to remember more memories about this but I really don’t remember since it was many years ago.
How it changed me
If it wasn’t for the switch then I would of never taken gaming seriously, before I viewed gaming as something to play with during playtime but after the switch entered my life that quickly changed.
I got my first major hyper fixation with Mario Odyssey in 2017, then later Splatoon in 2023.
And I would of never found out about other old consoles if I never looked up Nintendo on Google, some of my oldest memories with the N64, SNES, and GameCube would of never happened, and therefore I would of never found RGT and met all of you amazing people.
You guys have been some of the best people I have ever had the pleasure of talking to!
And to think that I would have never knew you guys or been obsessed with gaming if it weren’t for my mom getting that switch all those years ago, feels so long ago at this point.
