Your thoughts and opinions on upcoming titles and the results of this year's GOTY Awards.
Your disappointments, surprises and game titles that you think deserved its accolades.

I never really watch the game awards but…
When I saw Astro Bot right after searching it, then that's a pretty reasonable awards

Just saw the trailer for that Intergalactic, the whole aesthetic of that ship is replenishing my electrolytes. Big Dirty Pair vibes, hope its great.

With all due respect metaphor did not deserve all that ,I'm 60 hours in the game but come on it's not really a game if the year material unless I missed something ,I dunno

New ninja gaiden, Onimusha, Okami 2, team clover was resurrected, that pac man game, a new sonic racing game, a new virtua fighter, that unnamed project from the team of ICO. And a very solid 3D Platformer won the goty. I say it was pretty good and I can rest in peace

Purely personal opinion:
I already found it ridiculous to see a DLC and a card game included among the GOTYs.

I mean, at this point I'm expecting next year for Scopa and UNO to be nominated too.

In any case, I find Astro Bot's final victory over Silent Hill 2 and Metaphor absurd - God forbid we should be given a 200 euro CoD Black Ops GOTY Edition with box set and 1:1 reproduction of the protagonists' underwear. But the GOTY award will always be so, much discussed.

I agree with your opinion.

I'm glad that Astrobot won GOTY. A game that prioritizes fun over everything winning GOTY always makes me happy. Okami 2 is the biggest surprise for me without a doubt. I was not expecting it at all.

Biggest disappointment has to be Arcane not winning the best adaptation. Fallout is great and all but Arcane is a masterpiece. Animation alone makes it worthy of any kind of prize. Other categories felt right to me.

But the biggest annoyance was again sidelining some important awards. Just announcing the winners for RPG, Fighting, Indie, Family and Action-Adventure while giving a dedicated slot to ongoing games (aka live-service craps) goes to show that Goeff learned nothing from the past criticism.

Seeing Fallout tv show winning adaptation award was such BS. That series has so many flaws that people don't see above the fanservice happening, even the mid Knuckles tv show deserved more.

Yeah, I thought Metaphor had this really promising opening act, with the magic election setup, but the latter half of the game? It seems like they didn't know where that story was supposed to go, it plays out annoyingly similar in structure to Persona 4 and 5 after a point.

That is surprising, Fallout had a great look and some excellent performances, but Arcane has gotta be the best video game adjacent *anything* made to date, I feel.

I found the show a mixed bag.
Pros: Reveals such as new Onimusha, Okami, Sonic racer, Virtua Fighter, Ninja Gaiden, another expansion for Elden Ring
Mehs: The awards themselves; the majority of the other previews/reveals.
Cons: Intergalactic. It has a VERY 80's-inspired sci-fi aesthetic designed to appeal to the vast masses of sci-fi fans...that is utterly wrecked by a projectile vomit-inducing lead character design & voice acting. Then we learn there's a religious motif to the main story. Yeah, after how Druckmann handled all religions except his own in TLoU2, that's a hard pass for me.

For those not in the know, in TLoU2 you as the player could shoot-up any and all religious locations and iconography. Save one. With that one you couldn't even point you gun at it.

I don't think i've played a single game that released in 2024. But Astrobot looks really fun, would love to play it but I'm not getting a PS5 for the few exclusives it has when I can put that money towards upgrading my PC instead.
