Final Fantasy Tactics: The Lion War ReMixed

This hack brings Dark Knight from the PSP to the PS1 version of the game as well as a slew of balancing changes, customizable options, QoL features and much more.
PSP script and cutscenes to be added in the future.

Author(s): Nyzer
Type: Content, Improvement
Version: 1.1.11 (stable)/1.2.51.1 (beta)
Date: 6th of January, 2025 (stable) /9th of November, 2025 (beta)
Status: Fully Playable, Actively Supported

RB's Notes 1: There are two versions

1.1.11 is considered stable but has less changes.
1.2.51.1 is considered in beta state, with far more changes but less road testing, so there could be issues.

That said, in my testing, the beta is very stable and solid, go with that, if in doubt.

Why bother with this? PSP version exists with a slowdown fix and whatever inane balancing patches you dont really need. There is also a texture pack for WoTL which makes the upcoming HD version even more pointless.
You really should try it before opining. This might end up becoming the definitive version in a couple of years. The amount of QoL patches condensed in 1.2.39 beta (the one I'm currently playing) with seemingly no conflicts or gamebreaking bugs is nothing short of a miracle.

You can refund learned abilities, access fur shop early, Dark Knight, Luso, Balthier, double-cast, reworked move-find item, innate JP boost, single-player rendezvous, the option to see the map before starting the battle, the option to reveal treasure tiles before battle, the ability to undo movement if you calculate the range incorrectly, easier/more convenient releveling, more convenient brave/faith manipulation, better propositions, New Game+, smart encounters, buyback of stolen/broken equipment/katanas, better sound than PSP, more* units in the roster than PSP (PSP has 24, this has 20+10; the '+10' is a kind of 'bench roster' you can access whenever), etc. It's too much to list here.

This is not just adding DK to PSX, it's way more than that.

The better question might be to ask why you are so annoyed? People prefer to play the psx version. For me it largely comes down to sound quality. The og psx fft had a much more atmospheric soundtrack bc of the convolution reverbs that went missing in the PSP version. This hack is one of the best I've played. Maybe try sticking with it to the end? You may be surprised at what you find.

Cool modded rom, but with issues.

At first i was extremely hyped up to learn new things that appeared (changes to classes, new encounters and events)
but my hype was quickly extinguished in first 2 hours. One of my chemists after promotion didn't get single JP point for a wizard/black mage, so couldn't get even single spell, yet it did show 100/200 JP learnt, yet 0 JP available. Had similiar issue with White Mage that every random encounter at mandalia had slowly growing JP, but reseted to 0 other class JP's. Kind of weird bugs/glitchs.

Not sure what would cause it to happen so can't help with repeating this process to fix error/bug.

Eitherway, if there's more bugs than that it would make entire run unplayable in a long way so had to return to base game. :(

Anyone else hyped for Ivalice Chronicles? I sure am!

I wonder if there's gonna be any mod support/ mods in general for PC version. Can't stop thinking about it

It was "Stable" build used.
Try using the beta build. You will find a lot more bugfixes and new features there. Stable by now is incredibly outdated and wrought with lots of bugs and issues.

Better sounds quality on PSX than on than PSP.

Significant quality of life features. Seriously, Nyzer has outdone himself on some of the ways you can tweak this game to fit your own preferences. My favorite is the ability to refund JP spent on skills to allow experimentation.

Excellent job rebalances. My favorite is the new Banditry ability on the Thief, which transforms Gil Taking into Mug and ensures all back attacks are critical hits. Thief innately has this ability, but can learn it as an equippable support skill so they can get these benefits on other jobs.

Nostalgia. This patch uses the OG English translation instead of the WotL translation, albeit with some minor fixes (like dragons using “Fire Breath” instead of “Fire Bracelet”). This one will be hit and miss for different people, but I personally prefer the tone of the OG script.
Yeah, the WotL script is overwrought and terrible. I hate it so much. And they outright remove one of the most iconic lines from FFT when Delita says "Blame yourself, or god."

I believe issue you’re describing (no JP for newly unlocked jobs) only happens if you use the “Bench” feature this hack adds to temporarily take a unit out of your roster. I think this is just a limitation of how memory is stored, that the game can no longer keep track of the rollover JP for those units.

I also encountered this issue while playing, but only when I benched a unit and retrieved them. Every other unit had their JP act normally. So I think you can avoid this problem if you just avoid using Bench.
Could be!
I was trying out all new options i saw, so this really could cause an issue, guess could give this rom another go, now that i know what to avoid ::peacemario::thank-you

always great to see an update of my ~favorite~ hack of my favorite psx game. this hack is honestly full of surprises and doesn't compromise on content from the psp version. it is a great hack that elevates and modernizes the original game with the rewritten script and features of the psp (it includes some cool little tricks to sort of recreate the psp's pvp mode as well as the extra content and items)- you also get the original PlayStation in game cut scenes (re written to match the script of the psp's animated ones)...
- ------
crap- i just realized i might have thought this was "lion war of the lions". um... there are two hacks which are different versions made by the same team. one of the hacks is the one i lauded in the above post- they have very similar names. like one is "the lion war" and the other is "the lion war of the lions" i think "lwotl" is the one with the content i described
The Lion War ReMixed uses The Lion War v2.031 as a base romhack to build something of their own with better propositions that allow you to do them for a constant stream of JP, new job changes / updated abilities / new abilities, custom options menu, double casting, allowing guest characters to be manually controlled, cone AoE hack, innate JP up, mounted actions, characters from War of the Lions (PSP), custom events to get said characters, improved level scaling, swap ability preview targets, all exits shown in Depths, no minimum weapon range, tons of bug fixes, etc.

Things like the WotL cutscenes and script will be added at a later date.

Do you know how scaling works on this one?

What's the point of all thoses hack to turn the PS1 version into the PSP one, instead of actually playing the PSP one? Did I miss something?

Is this the hack that does not work in eboot? I know that there is a hack of tactics that wont work in eboot.
