Final Fantasy Tactics: The Lion War ReMixed

This hack brings Dark Knight from the PSP to the PS1 version of the game as well as a slew of balancing changes, customizable options, QoL features and much more.
PSP script and cutscenes to be added in the future.

Author(s): Nyzer
Type: Content, Improvement
Version: 1.1.11 (stable)/1.2.51.1 (beta)
Date: 6th of January, 2025 (stable) /9th of November, 2025 (beta)
Status: Fully Playable, Actively Supported
Source:

https://ffhacktics.com/smf/index.php?topic=13178.0 (beta)

RB's Notes 1: There are two versions

1.1.11 is considered stable but has less changes.
1.2.51.1 is considered in beta state, with far more changes but less road testing, so there could be issues.

That said, in my testing, the beta is very stable and solid, go with that, if in doubt.

The original page doesn't even explain what the mod changed. They say "going well out of my way to make the plot of the missions as sensible, humorous, and referential as possible" but what does that mean? They wrote their own script?

I've noticed this repeated problem where hacks/mods don't document what they actually did. Or they might document some 'changes' but they never document the literary style or intention or reasoning of custom script/writing changes.

Yep. As soon as I saw someone calling the newer script "Shakespearean" while angrily ranting about it in an immature way, I knew it would be what you described. This, Dragon Quest 5 on DS, Eiyuden Chronicle, and many other English 'translations' (aka re-writes) have horrendously bad intrusive script-writing and faux-medievalism-junk and it's bad. It's bloated, it ruins the lines, it doesn't read well, it doesn't sound good, it doesn't flow, and it always makes the meaning flimsy and gimmicky instead of effective and simple/direct like good drama should be.
Nah. It's handled really well in wotl. sounds great. You all just bitch and whine about a single edge lord line in the very first minute of the game.

That's literally because Nyzer is fixing bugs and adding new things as well.

Read the changelogs to get a better idea of why it gets updated often.

Personally, I was stubborn: I bought FFT Ivalice Chronicles to play on PS4... I should have stuck playing only this wonderful mod and waited, at least, for a sale on PSN.

It wasn't for lack of warning...

At least, I'm grateful to see this mod always updated here on the forum so that others who also need to control their spending don't make the same mistake I did.

What's the deal with this mod? I get updates for mods are important, but I see an update for it like every 5 minutes. When the final version is released, there needs to be a big event, and a notice lmfao.
Trust me, much better a patch that sees a lot of love and tweaking than one that could have been great but gets abandoned. I gladly update the entry personally because I can say firsthand that the quality is there.

Excellent adjustable tweaks; for my money there's no better way to play (if you don't mind the script; I don't).
I'm not sure which version of FF Tactics script I played through initially, but it had so much broken engrish that it was more or less trash in my book. I'm not sure if grammatically correct ye old English is an improvement but the plot isn't really the selling point of the game. Also, I have one line for anyone that can't stand faux cringe tier ye old English "thEy'Re MaSteR woRks AlL." You either get it or you don't, but if you can tolerate that crap, then you can tolerate anything.

Very interesting! Some how the emulation scene continues to impress me even after all of these years.

I hate the PSP script, and I hate the MANY "translations" of RPGs (Dragon Quest 5 on DS, Eiyuden Chronicle, Fire Emblem - Shadow Dragon) that did the same terrible amateur Renaissance Fair LARP junk. The Japanese authors wrote respectable solid normal prose, not faux-medieval fluff.

It's annoying to read and it ruins the power of every line. It's a disgrace.

If the same thing happened in a professional book translation, it would be a huge scandal. But in videogame land if you point out why the false fluffy translation is A) wrong B) bad, you'll screamed at by defenders who can't handle it when someone criticizes a videogame.

In Remixed 1.1.11 There's multiple text/display bugs (random Japanese characters appearing amidst the English/Roman) in the first few dialog boxes in the church, and then there's a soft-lock where you can't proceed past the "knaves" line.

It's pretty bad when a mod has multiple text display bugs and a soft-lock in the first 20 seconds of gameplay.

I'm going to delete it and change to non-remixed "The Lion War" mod which 3lric says inserts the PSP improvements/fixes into original PS1 FFT and with original PS1 script. (I hate the faux-medieval butchered translations of the PSP one and several other games with the same exact "localization" problem aka tasteless inaccurate unfaithful translation.)
You shouldn't of used 1.1.11 in the first place it is extremely outdated. Use the latest beta version and you will have a better time. Since ReMixed is literally based off of The Lion War and has a lot more custom features and bug fixes.

The matter of translation taste is debatable, yes, but you shouldn't be playing 1.1.11 anyway. The beta is stable and has no such crashing issues. You're free to do what you want, of course, but I felt I had to point this out.

Am I the only one that absolutely hates the new/PSP script?!

Maybe it's because I 100%-ed the PS1 original back in the day (I still have a save file that has Cloud about to finish the final boss w/ Omnislash). I think the archaic style of English fit so well..

I was very excited to play the PSP remake when it came out, but the overly modern language was like nails-on-a-chalkboard to me. I couldn't even make it past the first chapter..

I'd like to see the Ivalice Chronicles script as an option in Remixed. IC itself wants to be definitive, so the first thing they should have done is have all three scripts as options to be as accommodating as possible to players.

Edit: I have to say, this hack is the best experience I had with FFT so far, bar none. The amount of mechanics tuning and QoL this thing has makes WotL and IC both obsolete in my eyes. If anyone has contact with the creators, please send my regards and thanks.

I definitely hate it. They should just keep the PS1 translation as an option at least.

I wish someone would do a completely new translation that's more accurate than the PS1 version without all the fluff of the PSP version.

Kinda amazing that there's New Game+ and Continue+ features in this mod. And...playable Alma?!

I'm torn between this mod or TWEAK mod for WotL. 😅
Pick this mod; I recently beat the game with it and it's brilliant.

https://ffhacktics.com/smf/index.php?topic=13178.0 there you go there is every single changelog up to 1.21.47. My original thread only posts changelogs AFTER the original post with the reason being I don't want to clog up the original post with just changelogs.

God no, the faux-Elizabethan garbage is godawful. I'm saying this as some who loves Shakespeare, and was an English major. They replaced a horrendous translation with a tremendously up its own ass version that's completely insufferable. It reads nothing like actual old English the way it was spoken irl, nor does it read like a play, either of which would have been acceptable. It also takes a tremendous amount of liberties extending lines out significantly to wax on with prose; bloating the script in a way that sounds doltish.

I legitimately prefer the original as terrible as it also is. If you like it more power to you. I'm just glad there's plenty of hacks that don't apply it.

Make sure to play on the latest beta version. There is also a lot of new stuff you can do but you'll want to experience it all for yourself.

Definitely ReMixed you can see this thread to see all of the changelogs posted: https://retrogametalk.com/threads/final-fantasy-tactics-the-lion-war-remixed-psx.7554/
Oh, man. I started the game with 12.4.6, still doing early game grinding and now 12.4.7 came out.

Fearing that my 12.4.6 save might be not compatible with the latest version, I wonder if...I should stop for now.

playing Ivalice chronicles (the remaster) and while it's a great remaster (tons of QoL and decent voice acting, difficulty setttings which are drasticly different, whole crapton of story, chronicles, and information than ever)
the downside is the lack of WOTL game content, no baltheir or Luso, no dark knight or extra classes otherwise.

this mod seems fun with a huge number of changes, maybe after i play it on Ivalice chronicles i'll throw this on.

Better sounds quality on PSX than on than PSP.

Significant quality of life features. Seriously, Nyzer has outdone himself on some of the ways you can tweak this game to fit your own preferences. My favorite is the ability to refund JP spent on skills to allow experimentation.

Excellent job rebalances. My favorite is the new Banditry ability on the Thief, which transforms Gil Taking into Mug and ensures all back attacks are critical hits. Thief innately has this ability, but can learn it as an equippable support skill so they can get these benefits on other jobs.

Nostalgia. This patch uses the OG English translation instead of the WotL translation, albeit with some minor fixes (like dragons using “Fire Breath” instead of “Fire Bracelet”). This one will be hit and miss for different people, but I personally prefer the tone of the OG script.

The lack of DK was the determinant factor for me to give Ivalice Chronicles a pass. The script seems good, from what friends have been saying, but I half expect mods will port that in eventually anyway.

Just got a taste of the old script again and it sucks. I can see why the redid it for WoTL. Doesn't fit the tone of the world and reads as if some teenager of the modern age wrote the dialog. Stick with Prime if you care about the dialog.

What's better? This or the "PRIME" hack?
ReMixed has a lot more custom features than PRIME does. Along with plenty of bugfixes, new skills, playable Dark Knight generic, being able to skip entire scenes, and a ton more. So I would say this tbh.
