"The 3D scene framerate in battles is also increased by 33%, resulting in faster battle animations and a shorter camera swirl at the start of fights."

VIdeo Fixing "Active Time Battle" in Final Fantasy 9 (PSX ROMhack)

youtube com/watch?v=4EmoTxMUiRM

That's a very useful mod. I feel like most Final Fantasy ATB games needed something like this to make them truly what the developers envisioned. Haste isn't really that useful unless you are spamming attacks or playing in wait mode.

Been playing this for the first time on disc, but this looks absolutely great for a replay.

Wow the FFX style wait mode is awesome! And since you changed ozma that actually makes it more functional than the momoria mod on pc!

thats an interesting mod altho this is just a bandaid at best, after so many random battles even with 33% framerate increase its still such a drag, but hey better than nothing i guess!

There may be a Let's Play video that cuts out mob battles and only shows the story for people who don't want to play.

Hey all, thanks for the interest in my hack! I recently made an account and saw this thread. There will be a new version of my FF9 ATB hack coming out soon with some improvements to the CTB Wait Addon. I also replicated the CTB Wait Addon for my sister ATB hack for FF6, and made yet another ATB hack for FF7 with similar features. Lots of exciting stuff in the pipeline if you like ATB, or even if you hate it and want the games to be turn-based.

Glad you like it! I think the PC Memoria Engine devs do not want to alter the underlying game data since that could lead to mod compatibility issues, so they are stuck with AI scripts that include instant ATB fill gimmicks which don't play nice with their alternate ATB modes. They programmed an exception for Ozma, but they seem unaware that Hades, the Kraken, and Tonberries have the same issue as well. I just manually edited the scripts to eliminate these gimmicks, since they would otherwise render my hack unplayable in these encounters.

Fair enough. I personally find random battles in the SNES FFs have an addictive quality to them (though they can definitely get annoying in some areas). My ATB hack makes battling in FF9 feel closer to that, whereas in vanilla FF9 I am bored to tears by how sluggish everything is.

This seems pretty interesting.

That's good, makes the game even better .

Does it work/compatible with all these 4 hacks? It will be perfect for a replay/revisit FF IX if it is compatible.

1. Final Fantasy IX: Alternate Fantasy [v3.2] by Tirlititi
2. Excalibur II Patch [v1.0] by Hyadex
3. God Save the Queen [v1.0] by Almagest
4. Steiner’s Thunder Slash Fix [Final] by Chronosplit

I replied on RomHackPlaza, but for anyone else:
Yes, it is compatible with all of those, as well as with the Unleashed difficulty hack. Most of them can be patched in any order. However, Alternate Fantasy has some special considerations:

Patch installation order (1.0 ROMs):
1. Alternate Fantasy v3.2
2. Comprehensive ATB Enhancement (or CTB Wait Addon)
3. Alternate Fantasy Compat Patch

This is needed because my patches overwrite some monster AI scripts to delete instant ATB fill gimmicks that would make the fights impossible, and Alternate Fantasy has tons of changes to AI scripts already. I should also note that I'm pretty sure Alternate Fantasy replaces/fixes Thunder Slash already.

By the way, it was recently brought to my attention that the AI scripts for all 3 fights against Beatrix have this issue if one of the conditions to end the fight (10 turns have elapsed or her HP drops below 10,000) while Freya is in the air, so that will be addressed in a soon to be released v1.01 of my hack.

Perfect then, thank you for your hardwork to create this hack (FF IX really need this). And also thank you for answering my questions. I might as well waiting for the v1.01 to be released, I'm not in hurry or anything :)

Just wanted to revisit FF IX in the best way I could :)

So, I can safely patch with this order right? If I wanted to use those 2 hack (Excalibur II Patch & God Save the Queen)

Patch installation order (1.0 ROMs):
1. Alternate Fantasy [v3.2]
2. Comprehensive ATB Enhancement (or CTB Wait Addon)
3. Excalibur II Patch [v1.0] by Hyadex
4. God Save the Queen [v1.0] by Almagest
5. Alternate Fantasy Compat Patch

Or I can add those 2 hack after Alternate Fantasy [v3.2], Comprehensive ATB Enhancement (or CTB Wait Addon), Alternate Fantasy Compat Patch ?

Sorry if I bother you too much, since you mentions Alternate Fantasy has some special considerations. So I just wanted to make sure I patched it with the right order.

I'd put those patches after Alternate Fantasy, otherwise the order shouldn't matter. Actually, you may want to check with Tirlititi that God Save the Queen is compatible with Alternate Fantasy, because he may have used that item slot already.

Oh okay. Thanks. Then I will just wait for the soon to be released v1.01 of your hack first. Then I will do the patching below. Minus the God Save the Queen [v1.0] by Almagest (I can live without this).

Patch installation order (1.0 ROMs):
1. Alternate Fantasy [v3.2] by Tirlititi
2. Excalibur II Patch [v1.0] by Hyadex

4. Alternate Fantasy Compat Patch
