Amazing released version! thank you for your hard work.

In japanase comics, animated Series and videogames (but not in live-action, curiously) It's common for characters to be underage. When it comes to women, as they tend to wear revealing clothing, it was common, and still happens, for their ages to be changed to be over 18. In cases where it could still be considered scandalous, the outfits were slightly modified, as also happens in this game.

It's an insignificant detail since it only appears in the biographies; the costumes are more noticeable. But if possible, in the interest of faithfulness to the work, there's no reason not to restore it.
I see, hope this won't make this hack potentially illegal because of it (I understand that it's to be faithful but I think laws in Japan and the US are different regarding about depictions).

I don't fully understand the age restoration thing...

I would also love to see Erel's theme restored also within the decensor.
that is not currently possible.
it would be trivial to just replace erel jap song IF it was the same length as erel en song.
but her japanese song is longer. the problem is that if i replace it, it will move around the other songs and dialog that lives in the same XA file in a very specific position. i tried and from a quick test some dialogue goes missing.
the good news is that it can be corrected editing the XA index.
the bad news is that we don't know how the XA index works.
i don't have the time and will to study the XA index and fix it, but i assume it will be a tedious and time consuming process because erel song is around the beginning of the file and every XA audio after it needs to be reindexed, which is practically all of the dialog. the XA file contains 1640 tracks.

and before you ask. i took a look at Pi-Man uncensor patch to see how he did it and he replaced the song by cutting it to the same length as the english song, it is not the full song.
i don't blame him, while investigating this i did the same and at first didn't realize the rest of the song was missing.

What's the update for. The Age change? Which file got updated?

I would like to keep the english dub but have everything else changed.
Just extrack SLUS_008.55 and YE.PAC from undub version and import them into uncensored version with CDmage. You got the better version with english dub.

Thank you very much Sakitoshi for making these ROM hacks, it makes playing this game more enjoyable and more closer to the dev's original vision, but I did notice some technical issues though it could just be PCSX-ReARMed on my Anbernic (haven't tried on desktop yet yet) where the voice-overs during the episode previews don't play at all and sometimes it does. I had this happen with Erel but I haven't seen played enough of the game with the ROM hack to verify if this is just a PCSX-ReARMed issue or something broke with the patched. I was also thinking maybe someone on the Stargood team could help with possibly programming subtitles for the undubbed version of the game seeing they have experience with getting subtitles working into the Galaxy Fraulein Yuna trilogy.

check the USA and EUR game, the video is the same as JAP. nothing i can do about that.

mmm... i made the dumb assumption that both videos were the same length, but the japanese prologue is longer. i could fix it by making the english video slightly slower to accommodate the japanese narration.

feel free to make a patch to add subtitles. be the change you want to see :)
Hiya,

Please note that I don’t wish to downplay the difficulty and the hard work that went into these patches. I am thankful for the time spent on this. ;-)

On the three points ->

- I said that too - it's also in the original localisations. It is possible to change that with actual animation, and then you would have to replace that old video with the new edited video. Maybe new video AI tools would help to achieve that with less effort? I don't know if that would be the case to be honest, as I am not familiar with AI tools, but I don't think it's worthy anyway, considering the scale of that mountain. The reason I mentioned it was more like sharing a "fun fact".
- I am not familiar with the actual process, but I know about video editing - and if you have an actual video (in a video format) you can always import that to an editor and have the sounds swapped, or you can possibly change the length of the video/transition by adding time/frames.
- I don't know Japanese at all and even less how to create these patches :-) But again, if those parts (with the dialogues) are videos, in a video format that can be imported to an editor, the subtitles can be added there; and those new videos exported and replaced?
::thinking
Either way, thanks again!

A first note: All the animated FMV intros, patched and not patched, contain the original Japanese logo instead of Evil Zone (Eretzvaju instead of Evil Zone). That would be difficult o modify as it is part of the animation/video itself. It's completely understandable that it must be kept as it is. If changed it would be an improvement to the official localizations.

I was very disappointed with the "Decensor+Undub" version. The introduction/narration is cut by the animated FMV - the transition is bad - something has failed there, maybe when setting the length of audio and video, or something like that.

There are no subtitles at all added to the character voices/speeches during the act intros. It is impossible to understand what they are saying without knowing Japanese.

As usual there are two similar patches...

Decensor vs uncensored? What's better? decensor + undub?

I wonder if someone has play them, compared and could further explain what is below. Is the "Japanese opening restoration" the "FMV with kiss in the dark", or the song, or different things?

Uncensored:

Uncensor patch for Evil Zone (PS1)
-FMV with Kiss in the Dark
-Erel's costume
-Erel's Song (Be Fight!!)

Decensor:

reverts character ages, including in the encyclopedia,
decensors Erel’s outfit
and restores the Japanese opening.

Thanks
After some comparison and testing, I guess I finally found the answers to my own questions. And the conclusion is that none of these versions/patches is perfect which is a shame.
Why? What is my criteria for being perfect? Complete Japanese audio, all subtitled + uncensored visuals, themes and other.
Sadly, none of these patches achieves that - not the "Uncensored", nor the "Decensor" / "Decensor+undub".

The "Uncensored" patch does not change the language. It isn't un-dubbed, so the first narration is dubbed and all the voices are dubbed.
The good part of it is that, if you know English but don't know Japanese, you can understand everything: The speeches on the Acts are in English (dubbed). The bad part of it is the mismatch on some of the clothing that has been left censored. On the top of it, all the ages, on the character selection screen, have not been modified, thus still having the censorship. I would considered that patch incomplete.

The "Decensor" (only) patch is similar to the "Uncensored", but better. The ages have been changed (reverted to the original) and the acts have the correct uncensored original clothing.

So, in conclusion, until the Undub patch is fixed/completed it is better to choose the Decensor (only) version. You have those terrible dubbings but at least it's all in English and it's better than that other - inferior - "Uncensored" patch.

What a find this was and thanks for making this (if the author sees this) and thanks for sharing it here~
The decensor is almost perfect. I am not sure if it works this way but If the Japanese opening can be restored I would also love to see Erel's theme restored also within the decensor.

I would like to keep the english dub but have everything else changed.
I have been really enjoying the Japanese voices in the undub but no subtitles (which I know is a huge task to do so I won't ask) in the talking scenes do keep me away a bit. I also grew up playing with the dub so it just feels right.

If it is not possible to make that tweak then I understand~ Thanks again for this as I have been looking for a reason to play through all of Evil Zone again

I always wanted the American version at least with the songs back and undub. I'm finally can enjoy this game as it was intended to and understand the story.
Fun Fact: Danzaiver has a few victory quotes in portuguese like "OK Missão Cumprida" (OK Mission Acomplished).

This is by Titus? The Superman 64 guys? Ooph. I hope it's good
Titus Software they are the ones who distributed the game for the western market because the game was developed by Yuke's Co. Ltd. who are known for making wrestling games like the New Japan Pro Wrestling and later the WWF/WWE Saga.

Does this have English Subtitles? During Cutscenes?
it does not.
that is beyond my skill level. it would require adding a subtitle system and for what i saw, the game is already kinda tight on ram usage.
but maybe a skilled romhacker could pull it off anyway.

With the undub restoring the Japanese intro of the game as well as the soundtracks and also with the censorship removed that reduces the costume of the female characters especially to the blonde that is Erel to match the Japanese version of the game and also feels like the best version of the game that it could have been in the West.
