I re-watched the Evil Dead movies recently, as i had not seen them since the time of street fighter 2. (highly recommend you guys check them out, some awesome stuff! TV show was ok, but not as good as the first 3 imho).

And watching them, i could not stop wondering about the time frame of these movies, and if they inspired kentaro miura to make Berserk in some way?

Case study:
Ash the main character has to cut his own hand off, and makes a new hand in order to battle, with said hand containing tools.

The Movie's where released in around the world, including japan around the 80s - 90s, and made around mid 80s - early 90s. Which was around the time Kentaro may have been cooking.

Another example of the meta unconsciously feeding in to another creation (which i think is awesome, however the n are well, they believe they are god, the way they are acting, cough, i will leave that there...), or am i imagining things?

Please feed in to this and let me know your thoughts.

Sorry wanted to put this in also, but would dilute the post, so i will leave this hear as i think the idea of both ASH from evil dead and ASH from Pok m doing a cross over is hilarious.

and the forum merged it anyways....

Oh without a doubt he took some inspiration from Evil Dead. Miura has literally said himself that Sam Raimi was one of his favourite directors. Like a lot of mangakas, Miura drew from the things he was interested in, taking inspiration from movies, books, other manga's etc. For example, while it was never outright confirmed by Miura, due to numerous visual and narrative references, it's been theorised that Guts' character (Particularly in the Golden Age Arc of the manga) was inspired by the actor Rutger Hauer, specifically his roles in films such as 'Flesh and Blood'

It's been years since I read Berzerk or watched the Evil Dead movies. I never really thought about any similarities between them but now that you point it out it does make sense. Army of Darkness especially with its medieval setting. I wouldn't doubt he was at least partially inspired by it. The Evil Dead series was pretty big among horror fans back in its day.

After watching this movie, I think it must have inspired it more

I never made that comparison, but I can totally see it being true. He very clearly borrowed (and said as much) from the Hellraiser series. The God Hand are all inspired by the Cenobites, with Void and Ubik being the most obvious comparison (Void looks an awful lot like the Chatterer and Ubik looks a lot like the Butterball Cenobite). Plus, in the way the Cenobites us the Lament Configuration to lure people into their world of pain, the God Hand use the Behelits to draw in desperate people to become Apostles.

The Chatterer has some very clear Void vibes

The Butterball Cenobite looks to have inspired Ubik

This image gives off God Hand vibes, too

All that to say, Miura was heavily inspired by 80s horror movies, so there's a great chance you're right on the money.

All I know is that Griffith/Femto had Phantom of the Paradise's helmet.

Don't know about that but I do know that Guts was inspired by Max Rockatansky in Mad Max 2&3 and Griffith was inspired by Winslow Leach in Phantom of the Paradise, so it might as well be the case that the manga itself also took inspiration from Evil Dead too.

I'm sorry for not being able to find a better and more defined 1 to 1 comparison but I think these images might suffice,

Here's a comparison between Guts and Max Rockatansky

And here's a comparison between Griffith and Winslow Leech

I can totally see the comparison, Miura must have seen this movie also, which may have unconsciously fed in to his designs. What came out of it as a result (Berserk), was an awesome of the mish mash of designs, and evolution. The designs complimented Miura's the story well, and i love seeing the inspirations / potential inspirations.
