Baroque on PS2 (as well as on the Wii) are remakes of the PS1/Saturn versions.

The Undub swaps out the English voices for the Japanese ones.

I've been playing this game madly for a couple of days and, although I'm still -400 cubits through, I need to say this is a masterpiece.

Loving the whole philosophical and spiritual strangeness blended with good old 2000s weird anime vibe. If you're into dungeon crawling, roguelikes and eccentric story, trust me: you really, really gotta play this game.

And just a quick side note in case anyone, like me, couldn't play it at first because PCSX2 would boot the ISO into a black screen. After I disabled MTVU (Config > Emulation Settings > Speedhacks > MTVU) it worked liked charm.

I mean the original was also a product of its time. The dark, oppressive atmosphere and bizarre character designs are still in the remake, they just made it less colorless. It looks more anime but in a very psychedelic seinen style. I like it.

I think it probably just comes down to me being more nostalgic for that era of games...

I know it's a product of its time... But damn, what an unfortunate choice to go with this anime style with this remake/remaster. I feel like the dark, oppressive atmosphere and bizzarro character design was what made the original Saturn version so charming.

i think that's the whole reason as to why the Nintendo Switch port of Baroque choose the Saturn version instead

I got to love the DON'T GO CRAZY DON'T GO CRAZY DON'T GO CRAZY DON'T GO CRAZY line in english, tbh, but I will give this one a try, I love this game so much.

Huh? Didn't we already have an Undub of this game years ago?
Is this like an update or something?
Yes, it's an update. According to swosho (the guy who did this undub): "the old copy-paste undub for the PS2 version of the game by Netqork is completely broken and borderline unplayable, so here's an actual "proper" one.
This undub features carried over Japanese timings for both the EVENT and TALK-type scripts, reformatted TALK subtitles to match the Japanese subs as close as possible, a few restored & translated scripts that were replaced with duplicates in the localised versions of the game, and hardsubbed pre-rendered versions of the cutscenes (including the last scene of the ending)."

This isn't a translation, it's a undub patch by swosho.
The 32-bit versions were the ones in need of actual translation. As for the reason why? they are good games, that's why.
